Team Victory Song:

We are the Manly boys,
We had a win today,
We are the boys you know of
We showed them how to play,
No matter where we’ll be
Maroon and White you'll see,
Oh aren’t we a wonderful credit
To our locality,
So cheer boys cheer,
We are together,
Every now and then we have a win…..have a win
We will play them all around
At our home or any ground,
If they’ll always play a fair and honest game
So it’s GUZZLE GUZZLE GUZZLE
As we pour it down our muzzle,
And sing out the order loud and clear, 'MORE BEER',
And we will drink all night
Until we are very tired
In the shade of the Manly Leagues Club.

I don’t want to put anyone off here, but ffs this place has become negative. Was it our best performance? Ahh no! But it’s the nrl man, wins ain’t easy. We just put 30 on at home and won easily, yet plenty on here just focus on the negatives. You can look at anything with a strength or deficit focus, tell ya what the focus on the strengths makes things a whole lot nicer!

Anyway, my boy and I had a great time today. His first time at brookie! Hill was awesome then sone fella gave us his tix in the bozo stand for our piece of grass as he was meeting friends or something. So we got the full experience. And Turbo scoring in front of us and the Jota celebration was priceless!

Then we went back to the leagues club for picks and chats with Beaver, krillich and Danny (nose for the tryline!) Moore! What a day and night! Thankyou Manly, greatest club in the world!
Glad to hear what happened Waz, and the boys did it for you both just like they did for me& me kids last week, very much worth the trip indeed. Also I agree with you on how negative half of our fans been with the team.

It's a tough comp so close, anyone can beat anyone. We beat the Faiders & bronc by 28pts, bronc beat bulldogs twice this year first one by 24pts. Panthers beat them also we smashed panthers away by 16pts. I've also been pissed at them but not because they can't play but because they're not playing like a team. If we play like a team for the full 80 we can beat anyone, BRING IT ON MANLY..

Also 90% of us on here don't give the boys a chance in games coming up, WHAT DA F***. I give us every chance winning against Rooster, Dolp, Warr at home Tigs, Drags away maybe even the bulldogs. Brace yourself Eagles it's gonna be a ride of a life time, you can say I'm right at the end of the year won't hold it against yaaaa but give us some credits please..

So glad you had an awesome day and night @Waz13 and your son had such a memorable experience.

I lashed out for my birthday and upgraded my seating to a corporate area with my friend. Something I'd never done in all my years of going to Brookie. What a great atmosphere, superb hospitality and a wonderful experience. Golden Eagles Day made it even more special and of course the bonus was our triumphant win.
Well done Manly!

Sadly I missed watching the second half , we had dinner arrangements with friends and had to leave at 5.30pm to get there , so first half on TV, second half on ABC radio.

Two things won that game

Defence
Controlling the middle first

We can knock our forward pack but they’ve really stood up in the last two games

Q
A point forgotten by many is that there is nothing better than beating the toothless Redfern horde (Parra and Bulldogs come very close).

Enjoy it, it hasn’t happened very much recently
Lol...love it...toothless Redfern horde, similar to a Zombie horde.

Still a way to go to match it with the frontrunners [ well at this stage ] but good result in general
Line speed did seem to go up a notch or two and only when the Bunnies started that more lateral ball movement did they seem to trouble the Manly defensive line and something that still needs a bit of future addressing if again they wish to be on a more competitive footing consistently for the rest of 25
Pleasing that Jake looked a whole lot fresher and effective , good tactic having Turbo in that roving attacking role occasionally and even D C E and Brooks combining on the same attacking corridor as well . seemed to be a good ploy
Can only hope that D C E can still be a bit more measured at times , again did O K in some general areas , bit erratic in others . Also good to see Waddell quite lively with his general game approach . Lodge another improved effort , shame if he does have to sit out some future games
Sabb can still be a weapon if properly engaged and an asset , still very effective more then most outside backs in the comp getting outside most defenses if given the opportunity . Talau again showed with a few robust efforts that he probably would not look out of place on an edge .
Sure is an open question how the side is going to go with the quite tough draw approaching but not a bad prelude yesterday

I was surprised before the game they mentioned south's have won something like 8 of the 9 past games against manly
I wasn’t surprised. I’ve been watching this closely and took extra delight last year when we finally won in Vegas, having lost 7 in a row. Then we lost the second game to the vermin last year with Tommy Talau at 5/8!

We’ve had a barren run against them for years. The victory prior to our win in Vegas was in 2019; a 13-12 victory with a DCE field goal to ice it.

Much like our recent history against Penrith, we need to start winning against Souths to ensure we protest our superior win/loss ratio against them.

Off the top of my head, I recall two trial game wins against Souths in the last 5 years which may account for overlooking the record.

Agree Mark and loving what TKO offers. Would love for him to go around another year. A few observations/comments: Is the age of our forward pack part of the reason for the 2nd half fades? Gee it looked like we were treading water big time from about the 20 min mark in the 2nd half. Understand the rationale behind starting Jazz but gee we looked slicked as soon as Simpkin came on. What does Lodge offer that Sipley does not. Admit it was one of Sipley's better games but he bent the line and his play the ball speed was elite. And finally Jake's best game for a while. Ran hard and straight and tightened up the middle.

I might be imagining it, but did I detect some signs of… coaching over the last two weeks? Seems like we might have stopped trying to score from every play of every set and have instead concentrated on trying to win the middle first - like we're willing to work teams over in the early stages of the game and reap the rewards as the game goes on.

It's a different mindset to trying to blow teams away early, thereby leaving them plenty of time and plenty of energy to run over the top of us as the game goes on.

Mind you, we're still not able to stay switched on for the full 80 minutes, but I think that's more on the players than the coaches. It also doesn't help that DCE is the king of the self-inflicted momentum swing. I'm not sure I've ever yelled at any player through a TV screen as much as I've yelled at Cherry over the last few weeks.

But yeah, it was against a very poor Tigers side and a very poor Souths side, so who really knows. Still, it's the first time we've won back to back for quite a while.

Side note: Did I hear the commentators say that Manly is the number one side for metres made in the NRL? And that we've also kept an opponent scoreless at the half more than any other team? If that's true, does that put our ability to sh@t the bed into the legendary category?
Great points Ronnie

I too have noticed that in the last two weeks Manly have focused on the grind in the first half to first earn permission to attack the tryline.

I think this is an important strategy because a lot of star players from the top teams will be very tired after Origin and Manly will be fresh as daisies, so we may have a chance if we can hold them early and play the fatigue game late.

Wil be an interesting last 8 weeks!
