Who would have thought it, Marty Taupau going to Uni!

There's a great article and video about Marty going to UTS and studying Business on the NRL.com website. Hopefully by doing this it will help him to channel his aggression on the field and avoid him getting suspended and from what I have seen of him this year it seems to be working. Looks like he is on the right track to fulfilling his goal of being the Dally M Prop of the Year in 2018. Good luck to Marty.

Taupau challenging perceptions: 'Best muscle to exercise is your brain'

Martin Taupau spends an hour before each game getting his hair braided, prefers red wine to beer and would rather be studying for his bachelor of business degree than lifting weights in the gym.

While he has set himself the goal of winning the Dally M prop of the year award and helping Manly to a premiership this season, Taupau is also challenging the image of front-rowers.

"The best muscle to exercise is your brain," says the 28-year-old New Zealand Test star, who attends lectures at UTS’s Ultimo campus one night per week after training with the Sea Eagles at Narrabeen....

would prefer him to go to the university of front rowers ,taught by Mr S Burgess & Mr J Waerea-Hargreaves.

These are the kinds of guys you want on your team. The ones who realise life isn't over once you retire at 33 are the ones who really understand life and have their head switched on.

It doesnt make them better footy players but it does make them a good role model and a good influence on fans and team mates.

So you prefer him to be a meathead rather than have some brains and not care about his future after his career is over? Going to Uni and having something else to focus on can only be a positive thing for Marty and his game.

If your earning in excess of $300,000 p.a and not investing in your future, you don't have a brain..

Hopefully the passion these players show on the field can be carried into administration positions within the sport (and not lost to it). There's a definite need for smart people at the top who have the game at heart.

JWH isn't even a starting prop anymore. Marty would have nothing to learn from him anyway... apart from perhaps learning how to headbutt your opponent in a Grand Final and getting a penalty from it.

For what it is worth, here are the average run metres per game in 2018 (from nrl.com):
JWH: 84
S. Burgess: 151
Taupau: 172

As for Burgess, I would take him any day of the week but with Jake and AFB we are pretty stacked for middle forwards at the moment.

Thank F*** .....From the Thread I thought he must have been signing with the Hurricanes or Waratah's !!!!

Au contraire, I could forgive a young athlete earning $300k for having their blinkers on. Remember all they've done since 5 was football and all their manager wants is for more whilst they play it.

Did you study French?

Following in Jason King's footsteps - good for him and his young family

Yeah I'm less impressed with this article than some of you.

"Martin Taupau spends an hour before each game getting his hair braided"

Not sure how many truly great players of our game had this as their pre-match ritual.

Marty is statistically one of the best forwards in the comp so far this year.

No reason to be worried about his form... or his hair.

"Here you go Marty, you got a "B" on your last assignment."

*Marty glares at Lecturer*

"Err, make that an 'A'".

*glares*

"Umm, an 'A+'"?

"Thanks teach!" - walks off

edit: The brain is not a muscle.
