Member experience

Having supported Manly for years, I finally signed up as a member as a show of support for Des and Donny. I should have done so years ago, but less need when you live in Victoria.

Have to say, I'm disappointed with the experience so far:

- the sign-up process was slow and clunky
- it took a week for my credit card to be charged
- there was no welcome email (only a receipt)
- I received an email today saying the hat etc is 7-10 days away (four weeks from sign-up).
- The only communication from club so far has been a boring weekly e-newsletter with match report etc.

I don't want to be critical, but am frustrated NRL clubs want more members but have antiquated marketing.

My son is a Hawthorn member. He received a large package of goodies within a few days of sign-up, a welcome letter from his then favourite player (Cyril Rioli), free tickets to games and so on. We regularly get great communication from the Hawks. Their membership program is light years ahead of Manly's.

C'mon mighty Eagles !! . Ask members for their favourite current/past players... send them automated welcome letters... suggest great merch to buy .. provide valuable member communication ... encourage new members to get others to sign up ... it's not hard.

Hope I'm wrong, but starting to think the membership was a donation.

Me too this year buddy well done for joining

I think this is a great post and I'm sure @The Wheel and @Mitch will pass the sentiment straight to the club.
I'm like you and think of membership largely as a donation but the club (and the NRL as a whole but I'm only really interested in Manly) has to become proactive in this area. Lyle Gorman seems a bit more focussed on fan engagement than we've seen in the past but we won't have to reinvent the wheel or pay millions to marketing consultants, just borrow ideas such as you mention from AFL clubs, or successful overseas operations. Get on it Manly, survival may depend on becoming leaders in this area - and there's no reason we can't be.

Good on you for joining, particularly from Victoria. I understand you're airing your frustrations here and no doubt @The Wheel and @Mitch will pass them on. However, I would think it more appropriate to convey the experiences you have outlined directly to the Membership Manager at MWSE. I hope you get a more satisfying outcome. PS Go Manly!

I had a welcome email (with my temporary PDF access) within an hour this year and charges the next business day so maybe the system wasn't working.

Not sure what Hawthorn give and for how much, how many tickets etc so that is hard to compare.

They tried posting members only stuff last year but within hours you could get all the info in the free domain anyway so it was pointless. I rarely went to the website as I had already seen a thread here about it.

@1978 thanks as above I will pass this on. I am away interstate at the moment but will do so next week and let you know the response
