New signings to be announced #nextweek

What rubbish. Nate Myles was on the decline for years, was older than Thompson, couldn't run for his life - so how is that a comparison?

He was playing SOO and for Australia. Thompson played for Country and is on the rise at 30?
Give yourself a triple.

see above. Country rep. 30 next year, is as good as he will ever be, will never be good enough to anything above country.
but he will turn Manly into a premiership force lol.
We're all allowed our opinions, so i respect yours 100%. Although i just can't look past his stats alone. There was a chart somewhere on here comparing his stats to rep second rowers, and he showed as being one of the best second rowers statistically. On field he seems very calm, he has good defence and runs good lines. He will be a great, experienced player to have at manly. If he's next to Brian Kelly it'll only do Kelly a world of good in my opinion, and will help improve not only the attack of that edge but also the defence, which was one of our greatest issues in 2017. If he's next to Walker than we will be unstoppable down that edge and once again he will improve them defensively. Win win where ever he plays, as long as it's at manly

It's called filling the gaps in the team. He fills a gap and is a very good first grader and is currently above the edge backrowers we have now.

No brainer.

Did you ever watch Ben Kennedy and Joe Galuvao play for Manly ?

The judging players by their age is absolute rubbish, judge them on what they are producing form wise
I agree..I know it's different codes, but look at Tim Cahill last night for the socceroos; he put 2 goals in at aged 38,played 120 minutes of football when he should have retired long time ago by today's standards..it all comes down to the individual. So there are exceptions.

When we signed Sirro we had many doubters. Thompson is IMO a gun second rower that we desperately need. We will be very lucky to have him if he signs. He is a leveled headed guy who gave up an end of year overseas team trip to give his time to others. He is focussed and one tough hombre who will add steel to our pack. I reckon he will have a huge year in 2018!

Even if we look at our club, Menzies and Lyons played to a high level well into their mid 30s

Thompson will have the same impact as Ben Kennedy did.

Good call mate. Someone posted his corsi (or stats), or whatever you want to call it, and he's up there with the elite (international quality) players. He's 29, just turned 30, so has at least 2-3 years left.

Thompson is a tough, talented backrower, who is Exactly what is needed to stiffen the defence and add extra potency attacking the edges - particularly in the opposition red zone.
He will also add experience and be a better signing then some are giving credit....but anyone who expects a Ben Kennedy result are off the mark imo.
I can see the comparison in an experienced backrower - but Kennedy was far different as a leader - screaming at the troops all day and showing them the way - 1 of the best competitors the game has seen.....with a 1 handed unload that was equal with SBW except they wern't forward....
Yes Thompson will do a great job and add plenty....but the leadership qualities pale in significance to BK.....

Mate, I know it's only social media, and should be taken with a grain of salt, but some are lauding his huge leadership ability with the younger Dragons forwards, and say that he is a key locker room motivator.

That said, you're right, Ben Kennedy WAS one of a kind. The first building block to bringing us back to the heavyweight (and I still say we are a heavyweight) in the NRL.

Rest of the players idolised the guy.

As good as Thompson might be he aint no Kennedy (as established international who was in some peoples greatest ever manly team)

We really need to set a realistic expectation when players come to the club
