Doesn't do much besides catch and pass.

If only we could get Orford to just catch and pass we would be travelling alot better. Start blooding Cheery Evans off the bench, build him up gradually then rest Orford for a week and let Dale have a full game, then let him rip next year.

Like I said, I don't like Smith, but Orford is not doing anything out there.  I agree Ryno, start getting someone else at half.  Promote guys and give them a sniff or they'll leave.  How many more losses will Hasler tolerate before wielding his pick axe?  It's alwasy the same old losers that run around out there.  That's what frustrates and leaves fans disollusioned, and dropping off.  If he doesn't, then I'll start calling for his head.

Catch and passing are the best parts of his game. I am sick and tired of his 10 metres kicks for touch and his kick offs and line drop outs which barely make the 20 metre line.

Seems Ox has lost pace off the mark.  Assumed last year that it was a groin injury, but hasn't improved this year.  Remember when he first replaced JT he was making plenty of individual runs and was incisive in a poorly beaten team. Right now defenses know he's not a threat individually so only need to worry about his runners.

Tim Smith has all the skills, but he is lacking as a decision maker.

He needs to play inside an experienced 5/8 who has to call the shots. Manly's 5/8s are not that type of player.

lol @ berkley Eagle!

that was the best mate.

Tim Smith had his shot... and failed, let him play out his RL career in QL cup or whatever he does these days. who cares.

theres plenty more on the way up - if you haven't figured it out already the team w/ the best youth identification and selection policy wins... not the team with the knack of picking up has been 1/2 backs on the cheap (coz those teams end up looking pretty cheap indeed).

Campese will be asking for 400+ and that is what Canberra will give him. He bloody loves Canberra, and they'd have to do some pretty terrible negotiating to see him leave the club.

Orford will be asking for similar money.. so rather than giving him that.. offer it to Campese.

Or sign Smith for alot less and keep Heagraves/Williams etc.

I dont think we need a great half back as we have plenty of spark in attack from a number of areas.. we just need one that can kick well and catch and pass..... just do the basics well.

Lyon G Stewart Matai Watmough etc on their day can create try scoring situations.. not just Brett.

Its just theres no structure in the halves to continue a rhythm or momentum in attack. Field position has been poor at times as well.

sorry but disagree... how does swapping a recognised 1/2 back for a specialised 5/8 a good idea?
I agree w/ previous posters - we should only sign Smith if he is willing to work for beer, since that is what he'll end up spending his cash on anyway ;)

Your nuts if you think a premiership winning team doesn't require a good 1/2 back. Look at the number of tries scored from cross field kicks.... then look at each successful team in the modern era, and name a team (including Manly last year) that didn't have a good attacking 1/2 back.

Have you seen him play? He is practically a half back with a number 6 on him his back. You dont need a great half back when you have a great 5/8.

I said we dont need a great/superstar half back.. We play better when Orford is low key.. and takes few touches.. like in the GF.. Lyon ran the show.

I didnt say we go ge ta **** one.. just doesnt need to be a superstar.. he needs to do the basics well.. and we have enough ability in our side to manage.. Especially if we get Campese.
