Nik Kosef on Chiming in EP023

Blaming the 1997 GF loss on himself is a bit sad, but also an indicator of the standards those teams set for themselves. It wasn't just that moment though. There were a series of unfortunate events that led up to that moment.

To be fair as well, we lost to Wests, Balmain, Norths, Parramatta and the Gold Coast that year. Plus a draw with Illawarra. We weren't competing or playing to the level of the 1995 or 1996 team.

Winning the minor premiership that year is still something to celebrate, which I don't think we as a club and supporter base really do.

Matthew Ridge Ian Roberts Dessie and OJ, were gone that year, replaced by Craig Field, and Shannon Nevin, that explains everything.

1997 final was the worse lost in my time following Manly, same for everyone 100%, had to buy a new TV after that. We did really well compared to the 1996 team we had. We were missing Ridge, Serdaris, Cunningham, Hasler and Hancock I think. 97 we had Nevin, Field, Colella with Fulton and Hunter on the bench, a lot of experience gone there.

Also the knights had a lot of legends in their team don't forget, including an immortal.

Colella was a good player. A lot like OJ.

No yes yes

Choc Watmough had better hands than Danny Moore. Not sure why Danny got so many rep honours.

Solid club player at best.
I disagree on the solid at best

Sure he was playing in a split comp era re rep duties but he never let us down when played. Take a look at these highlights

Much like some (not saying you) sleep on how much of a beast Hoppa was in the 90's there is some under selling on Danny Moore

We all have our own opinions and the split comp observation is a prudent one I had overlooked. I was more of a Craig Hancock fan. Hoppa was Hoppa which no one would disagree with.

In the podcast Kosef talks about going through some financial struggles and Beaver covering his mortgage repayments. What a legend.
I am well into my 40s now, and think almost everyone’s a pretender. But if I ever had the chance to meet Beaver, I’d seriously freeze and wouldn’t be able to get a word out. (Same goes for Ponting and McGrath)

Its hard for us normal workers to understand just how much money these elite players have.

I know of 24 and 25 year olds getting $350k put in there bank accounts a couple of times a year. They can save a million bucks in 2 years, cant do that on a $80k a year job at the same age.

To cover someones $500 a fortnight mortgage for few months would be like most of lending/giving a mate a $100.

You are right, a legend indeed. Many piss it up the wall, put it through the pokies or punt it.
