Non-Manly Games [Round 3, 2017]

It felt very wrong but I really wanted storm to win that game. The only other game I've ever wanted them to win is the GF against the dogs.

I miss Manly being at this level. Hope we get back there soon.
Anyway donkeys lose.:giggle:

I hate to say it, but the Storm didn't crack under pressure. They just kept on dishing it up to the Broncos until they cracked. The divide between Manly and the two teams is measured in light years. It's gunna be one hell of a season to get through.....🙁

Two great teams on display - Melbourne & Brisbane. Have to admit that Craig Bellamy is a master coach as is Wayne Bennett. Our 2017 side on current form looks several levels below both teams, but let's hope for better things to come. Good to see the home ground advantage alive and well in Melbourne as usual - doesn't happen much at Brookie these days.

Must say that Cooper Cronk is the greatest exponent of the strategic "dive" for a penalty I've ever seen (and that's saying something given Melbourne Storm's captain and fullback.) I reckon Cooper is only player in the NRL who could consider an acting career after footy. Times his falls like clockwork. Consistently gets a penalty for being "pushed" at strategic moments e.g. one this week and one last week. Makes it look so natural you almost believe him. Vunivalu is trying to learn this valuable skill from teammates Cooper, Smith and Slater, but still lacks their finesse at this stage.

2. Refs have lost the plot on shoulder charges . . . again!

It doesn’t matter what tweaks they make to the shoulder charge rule if the match officials are going to over react to every front on collision and blow ridiculous penalties. Jason Taumalolo is serving two-match ban for a tackle made from side on which should not even have been a penalty, let alone a suspension, and tonight it was Anthony Milford on the end of a ludicrous penalty. Milford was confronted with a runaway Suliasi Vunivalu in the 52nd minute and braced himself for contact. It’s a collision sport and these types of incidents are unavoidable and yet Milford was pinged for a shoulder charge. What a joke!

Yet the week before they were quite happy to see both Taupau and AFB done for shoulder charges.......

Grrrrr. Anti Manly tossers.
As for the shoulder charge rule, when a giant is running at you, you can't brace yourself for the collision. You open your arms for the front on tackle which can result in a head clash leading to stitches and concussion. I thought eliminating concussion was a priority. So far 3 players have been suspended for shoulder charges that resulted in no injury to opposition and players who have broken others eye sockets and the like are free to play.
Dumb Nrl, dumb.

Tell me about it...I tipped the storm in the tipping comp, so when I yelled "go Storm" after they scored the winning try, it seriously tasted like vomit in my mouth and I had to brush my teeth. Sickening...totally ashamed of myself.

I too confess to a brief moment of madness with a "go Storm". If I was Catholic I'd have to go to confession lol.:giggle:

So now we will hear about their injury crisis missing 2 players.
While none of us like the Storm I have a grudging admiration bordering on jealousy for the way they always compete, have a variety of 'trick plays', can unearth good players from somewhere, and can turn rejects (such as Cheyse Blair) into regular first graders. I'll always lean to them when they are playing the Donkeys who are given every advantages by the NRL.
Bellamy is an unlikeable coaching genius, but I know he'd turn Manly's on field performances around.

I sometimes question whether I'm biased when questioning a refs decision but last night I was watching two sides that I detest so I think my view is balanced. The non try by Broncos early in the game is a joke. There is a line across the field and the ball travelled less then 0.5 metres forward. For this to happen over that distance and player passing was running it HAD to be passed backwards to get that result.

The pass that hit a team mate (behind the passer) and went backwards was not a knock on.

Refs seem to take the negative view on most situations.

Maybe just becoming a grumpy old fart.

I tried watching the game but watching the storm play makes me ill.

I think it's the lack of character, sportsmanship, soul, and respect for the game (not to mention being cheats and loved by refs and the nrl alike) that does my head in.

Also I find myself just waiting for the next tackling style that will eventually be outlawed due to player safety issues with bellamy crying innocent to all who will listen to him.

I've said before that I think that everything wrong with the game today has emerged from that swamp goop of a team.

-allegedly

p.s - As a fan, I hate the broncos as well (from my time in brisbane and the broncs generally.)

Thaiday charged for 'pulling a thumb"

Ok, so he pulled on bromwich's thumb which he dislocated but was passed fit to play.

Now I can't really agree with the tactic....but to be charged??

"Oh this player had and injury once but is ok to play....but you tried to touch it.....fined!"

On field action? Ok. sin bin, penalty etc. But to actually review this after the game and be charged...I just don't know if that's right.

It didn't hurt him....wasn't his head/nuts/butt 'ole...it was his thumb.

Is it worth being charged or a the storm players that protected?

what would happen if someone did a good legal tackle on slaters shoulder? Assault charge?

I'm interested in the general consensus. Try to forget it was Thaiday or you're all going to say 'hang him high!'

edit: What about the storm hair pulling then? surely that's contrary conduct as well? And it was a lot more obvious.

9 just had a nice piece on Cullen.
He works at Newport Marina cleaning boats to supplement his income.

Lost his brother in an accident in 2015 and his last message to him was 'I know you'l get an NRL Contract soon' . Cam listens to it often

Sweet :h:
Just saw that.
Seems like a real down to earth young fella.
Should be more of em.
Good to have him on board.

Totally agree, if he did the same act on any other player nothing would happen because the act itself is fine. The fact that it was previously injured is irrelevant- he and his club chose for him to play.

A ridiculous slippery slope that the NRL has reacted to due to the Daily Tele's drama creating, click bait reporting.

Seriously the NRL have no idea what they are doing.
