NRL injuries.

Nordburg

First Grader
Plenty of talk around the game at the moment, about the amount of injuries in the game, especially long term ones. This topic comes up most years around Rd 2-3(last year being an anomaly due to Covid)and more often than not,the media are wondering why it’s happening and how can they change the rules to fix the “problem.”But am I the only one who thinks that every time this subject comes up,it’s always after the Roosters suffer long term injuries?Just one example,2019,there needed to be an investigation into Brookvale after Brett Morris injured his ankle,(never mind the fact his injury was caused by the tackle and not the surface)

Tgey keep trying to make the game faster, collisions are harder, twisting and wrestling in tackles has not been eliminated. More injuries is just a byproduct of this. Was it last week we had what 22/30 to choose from - in round 3!? Most teams will cop this throughout the year. Throw in suspensions and it gives even more weight to the importance of squad depth. Something we sadly have none of.

Yup.

Mentioned this in the roosters injuries thread.

2 things ive noticed about injuries and tackling high, instead of legs.
Lots of friendly fire and head clashes
When players go high, shoulder tackles, twisting and forcing players to the ground from a height we get lots and lots of leg buckles.

Just another issue the NRL has invented for itself by punishing legs tackles by not giving enough time to get back the 10 or should it still be 5

Honestly the accountability for tinkering with the game is non existent. They should be collecting data and results from all rule changes to correlate. Are they professional or what.

absolutely gob smacked at wayne pearce being the goon that suggests so much ad hoc rubbish that screws with the players

The method of tackling has changed a lot as well. A lot of defenders now use sling tackles where they throw their full weight on the opponent's lower legs and then pull them backwards to slow down the next play the ball. Any wonder there are ankles and knees getting stuffed. Anyone tackling now like Beaver Menzies will never get picked in first grade, but at least he wasn't ruining careers.

Happens every season since the sport became so professionalised. These athletes are so finely tuned from the offseason it takes a while to get the body used to battle again.

We will beat them, maybe that's our tactic...don't play fast and we might wear them out or bore them sh!tless, or both.

You reckon Manly has it bad, check out the canucks injuries/players not available....lolz

Poor Easts. They have some injuries. Somehow it evokes sympathetic coverage from the media when teams like Manly and Newcastle have been beset by injuries all season.

There's nothing poor about Easts!

Agree though, as usual its a case of 'one rule for one and one for everyone else'.
