Realistically DCE is probably getting on with life.
Make no mistake...Snake Stewart is an all time favourite, but we don't want the sky is falling down and panick from the captain stating fear of him Not coming back, which is the likely situation......more see it as a statement to give the fans confidence we have a new kid on the block who is a future Superstar...all is good.
Also keep in mind there are plenty of legal behind the scenes going on and his answer may not be so personal or offensive at all.

In all honesty, what was Cherry supposed to say to the press in that interview?

I've got no doubts that he was told prior to the interview to play dumb about the Stewart/Matai situation should it inevitably come up. From the clubs point of view, DCE saying "no idea" was the best thing because they don't want anything said that could harm their position.

I'm not ignoring it, I'm far from naive about leadership or captaincy but it's 2017 and if DCE wins games then I'm happy.

DCE was appointed CAPTAIN this week, yet when asked on Fox Sports what's happening with Brett Stewart, who just happens to be a club legend, he had the temerity to say he had "no idea" and as far as he was concerned Tom T was the no 1 fullback, and that he was excited about playing with a new roster of players.

Sorry? The club captain has "no idea" where/what/how the best fullback we've ever had is? Hasn't once spoken to him, or asked the coach, or anyone in the club how he's going? Whether he will be able to play this season? No idea whatsoever?

Sorry that just doesn't wash and that is the disgrace folks. The now captain is PRETENDING he has NO IDEA where a club legend superstar team mate is.

As it happens I am the "captain" at my work in charge of 9 people, and I can tell you I know where every single one of them is most minutes of every day. For DCE to make out he has no idea, as though Brett was some cast off reserve grader, is not only an insult to a club legend, but above all an insult to us fans who've supported the club for decades and want to know whether we'll see a club legend play again.

What DCE should have said is that as captain he knows exactly where Brett is at because he made it his urgent business to find out, and that furthermore he hopes Brett can star for the team again this season as he is a club legend who won 2 premierships and scored more tries than DCE has ever imagined in his dreams.

Yes, yes, yes we all know DCE and Brett have never got on, so the real story is he wants Brett to move on as fast as possible, but whether that's the case or not it doesn't wash to dismiss a legend and feign utter amnesia as to his existence.

At least pretend to know or care would be the better approach.

And here's the final point. When Tom T was asked the same question, he said Brett was definitely the no 1 fullback if fit, that he'd be happy to play any position alongside Brett, and that he hoped Brett would play and star again this year.

Notice the difference???

But what if he was instructed to say that??

You can take the action in two ways can't you, the way you have, the other being he was told to say that as the negotiations on Brett's future are " delicate".

I've been waiting since the GF in 2013 for DCE to return to form and I have kind of given up hope of it happening. He had a real purple patch there at one stage and of course his debut year in 2011 was something special.

I watched a 13 minute highlights reel of Mitchell Moses on Youtube yesterday and I have to say that he did more jaw dropping things in 2 minutes of footage then I have seen from Daly in 4 seasons.

I was a massive fan of Chez there at one stage but he has just underwhelmed so much the last few years. He used to have a wonderful kicking game, would take the line on, and could throw a lovely long pass but he just seems rudderless nowadays.

I have my fingers crossed but I just don't see Daly as a top tier player anymore...sad as it is. That game in 2015 against the Storm at Brookie was a fine match but that's what he should be doing week in week out, not once a year.
