Other Games - Round 24, 2018

Well Wally Lewis and Andrew Johns seem to know a bit about footy, and both agree there is no case to answer.

Most ex-players who do television commentary tend to side with the players. Johns especially never seems to see anything wrong with what players do unless they put a big hit on a halfback.

Correct. But once is an accident, repeated instances of it are either bloody poor technique that needs addressing, or intentional. And if he’s failed to address that, then it’s recklessly putting other players in danger and needs to be stomped on before anyone else is seriously injured.
Did you say the same about Skivvy?

Is it a penalty if someone hits someone across the chest, and his arm rides up off the ball and hits the attacker in the head? Yes it is. Is it an accident? Yes it is. Is it illegal? Yes it is.p, hence the penalty. But if Dylan Napa hits someone with his head, it's not illegal? If it's not illegal, why do they penalise? Are you saying it should be play on?

They get 10 in the bin every time an arm bounces off the chest do they?

Sorry, but 100% disagree on Myles. He absolutely led with his head in tackles.

Not "roughing" them up after the event. He was like a 120kg javelin.

I really don’t see how you can say Myles led with his head but Napa doesn’t, in that case. I don’t doubt Myles did it deliberately, but his tackling technique was far more upright and his head nowhere near as far ahead of the rest of his body as Napa’s is. And a lot of the dirty **** he did, headbutt-wise, was in scrums.

One guy looks very much like a javelin, the other used his head to make contact at much closer quarters.

He had big issues with hitting too high early in his career. He addressed them, and a lot of the penalties he copped later on were unfair, on reputation more than what actually happened in the tackle. Anything across the shoulders or bouncing up off the chest was treated as if it was a coat hanger, because he’d had a habit of that early on.

So we agree it's illegal, and we are back to arguing the extent of the penalty.

Haha no I don't believe an accidental head clash is a penalty.

Intentional head clash - yes, 100%.

I do not think an accidental head clash is a penalty.

We can continue to argue the point till the early hours of Sunday morning if you like, mate. But my opinion will not change.

Be warned.....I have nothing but time and a couple of bottles of red haha

Yes he did.
I don't think we'll be changing each others opinions on this one, but it's good to finally disagree with you lol.
This is my final say on the matter.
I realise that contact with the head, by any means is illegal and that players have to 'look after each others welfare' in a game like this and that accidents are not recognised.
But I reserve the right to think it's stupid.

Both Lewis and Johns have the intelligence of a gnat.Just because the played years ago doesn’t mean they know the actual rules applied today. I can’t imagine them pouring over a rule book or even reading st all.

I am not debating their intelligence. If I want an opinion on a mathematical equation or macro economics, I'll be sure not to ask either of them.

But in matters of rugby league, forgive me, but I will tend to listen to them. Regardless of their IQ's, they do have a fair idea about the game of rugby league.

I'm well stocked red wine wise, - I'm fully prepared for a battle of attrition. I hear what you are saying about accidental, but for me, what Napa does is text book reckless and needs to be addressed. We can't have guys being knocked out cold like this every week.

Mate, of people were being knocked out every weekend I would agree.

But its 2 instances that incredibly happened against the same team. Mayne that has magnified the situation?

I'm on the Shiraz. What's your poison?

Just by the by...nice to have a "heated" exchange on here without the resort to name calling or nasty crap. Cheers!

Nothing wrong with a civil, respectful disagreement!

And really it’s a minor point - my opinion is just that, if there is something you’re doing that is creating a greater risk of a dangerous accident, you should stop doing it. And if you don’t address it of your own accord, then I guess someone has to get the big stick out and make you address it.

Well Brandy just suggested exactly the opposite and in the intelligence / modern day ruling discussion I would respect his thoughts every time .

I suppose what I’m saying NB is that you do not require intent to be put on report , careless contact is charged every week and if that’s not careless I’m missing something. Intent means nothing except with regard to the extent of the penalty at the judiciary. Careless contact is all that’s required.
As you say there will always be different views on this and my cold VB is being neglected. Enjoy your evening mate.

What a surprise. Roosters do two line ball/ forwarr passes - no call.

Manly, forward, no try twice.

I think that is because old lobster head pays for a certain number of 'legal' forward passes each game, we obviously don't. Doesn't get included in the cap so no problem - easy

Back to the game, must say I'm enjoying watching the rorters being done. It's games like this that crystallize your heirachy of hate for other teams. Looks like rorters are ahead of Broncos for me.

Gotta be honest, I couldn’t get over the fact I hate them both, so I changed channels. I’m watching the Swans fighting over a chip with the Poos & Wees now
