One paragraph which should highlight why it is such a useless exercise stating “oh player x is on 200k which means that is now free for next year”

From the dogs drama at the moment

Eastwood and the Morris twins, who are off contract this year, release $2.2 million but that money has already been largely taken up by back-ended deals and ratchet clauses for players contracted to the club in 2019.

Which why is so impossible to get a handle on the clubs cap space at any time (not forgetting 3rd party deals)

How did all these contracts get approved by the nrl? Simple calculations would have pointed out the issues ahead. I understand Des and Dibs set this up but did Toddy sign these off? Surely he bent the rules by allowing this, the nrl have an obligation to keep each team compliant and also viable going forward... the buck stops with theNRL and mr Greenburg, why haven't the media asked him how this slipped under their radar hmmmmm.

My assumption is that the NRL will only sign off on a single season each time (and allow for some wiggle room in the coming years) as player movements can be so fluid

We have several outstanding ranters here at ST, one whose style I admire is @bazeagle. Some fall into the conventional long repetitive ramble but Baz has the ability to deliver a classic rant in relatively few words, which I appreciate.
