There could be a twist yet
Fainu could still be our 9 by 2024
Latu Fainu
Similar in style to Manaise who also played at 7 in the juniors, maybe even potentially better...
We have to think out side the square and behind bars feathered friend maxta

Maybe we can sign a few angry props from prison as soon as they are released

There are a few Bad Boys on parole in 2023

Stupid or a calculated gamble that did not pay off?Easy to be smart in hindsight.
One was the next big thing with an unbelievable skillset and one was a good hooker that most on here bagged because he supposedly could not pass and was a lot older.
And many of us did not bag him and always thought he was a gun in the middle and was terribly undervalued...
How's that skillset of Api's looking in a well-coached team that utilises him smartly and gets him quick PTBs...?

... yrs ago we brought Steve matai and Dce from q cup that's where I'd be looking for players
We didn't get DCE from Q Cup - we signed him as an 18 year old and a couple of years later we sent him to play in the Q Cup.

Wikipedia:
"At the beginning of 2008 Cherry-Evans was invited by Dennis Moore to trial with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and later signed a contract to play for their under-20s National Youth Competition team.

Cherry-Evans played 46 games for the National Youth Competition team of Manly Warringah Sea Eagles over the 2008 and 2009 season where he scored 246 points in total including 24 tries. He was named on the interchange bench of the 2009 Toyota Cup season's team of the year.

At the conclusion of the 2009 Toyota Cup season, Cherry-Evans found himself behind Trent Hodkinson as Manly's first grade halfback after the departure of club captain Matt Orford. As a result, Cherry-Evans was sent to play for Manly's Queensland Cup feeder club the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles. After captaining the team for most of the season, Cherry-Evans was named the Queensland Cup Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year. His performances in the side saw him selected to the Queensland Residents team where he was also named team captain."

The bloke we should be looking at is Liam Hampson from redcliffe. He's only 23 and is a real goer and shows a lot of creativity out of dummy half. Redcliffe were a different when he's not on the ground. The last two weeks they used him off the bench and brought him on after about 20-25 mins.

I think this fella would be the ying to crockers Yang.

We could start with croks then bring this bloke on to carve up. Strangely enough the dolphins NRL haven't got him on a train and trial contract.

Here's some highlights from when he was at tweed.

Jeez - 0 to 100 in no time flat for him. I love this outside the box thinking Cam.

Looks like a real weapon... GET ON IT!

Do petitions work in this day and age?

@Cameron
Some really average defence there ,but love the way he takes the line on.
We need more players that don't give up ,and that young bloke does have that attitude.
Doesn't look like he has problems setting up either.

How does he look playing behind the best forward pack and the best team running around?
Probably as good as most decent 9s would look if they were in that side,it does not take away the fact that it was not mindnumbingly stupid but a calculated decision based on age and skillset.

Wonder what the present situation is with that P N G based 9 , Ipane ? was it . Probably would have been really suited to the new format or open style of play . Probably one reason why the club has enlisted Nathan Roache if Lawton is not due back until mid next season or so , must be a really bad type of injury . Don 't think that Croker lacks that much finesse as a 9 , his effectiveness no doubt more dependent on a Manly pack exerting some regular ruck competitiveness and a decent share of possession . Fairly apparent that he was one of Manly 's more consistent and whole hearted players this season , just will have to suffice for what ever time as things now seem

Wonder what happened to that Edwin Ipape we had at the club for a second. I'm so sorry if I got that spelling or name wrong btw.

You are correct

And the moral of this great story is
There are players out there with great potential and shrewd club people find them

Like Shawn Lane Des let Edwine go

Ipape was on a train and trial contract with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles as part of their 2020 pre season.[5] He played two games for the Manly 9s team during the NRL 9s. [6] On 28 May 2022, Ipape played for Leigh in their 2022 RFL 1895 Cup final victory over Featherstone.

Leigh Centurions have confirmed that Edwin Ipape has signed a new three-year contract with the Club up until the end of 2025.

Papua New Guinea international hooker Ipape, 25, has been in outstanding form for the Centurions this season since arriving in February, earning Heritage Number 1536 and scoring six tries in 14 games.

He capped a stand-out performance by winning the Ray French Award as Player of the Match in Leigh Centurions’ victory in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final at Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Head coach Adrian Lam said: “I am very pleased for the club, Edwin and for myself as coach, as he has been outstanding this year, and certainly has been a revelation in the Betfred Championship.

Like I've said before I think manlys so called problems can be fixed move Jake to prop croker to lock and experiment with a young hooker or buy one plenty in Qld cup 👍as eg .
Yes I agree, I'd keep Croker in the mix because he's a workhorse. On the subject of horses I've always believed in the adage 'horses for courses' and hooker is a specialist position that is better served by a player who's learned the craft from years of playing that position, Croker while having filled the role admirably on a temporary basis is not and never will be a top of the pile 9, I'd be happy to see Gordon given a go, from the little I've seen of him I think he'd go alright. It's time for a generational shift at Manly, based on recent results as a club we're nowhere near we need to be and if now isn't the time to bring enthusiasm into to mix through our talented youngsters then it never will be

Nice thinking....

Notable was the abundant examples of 2022 Manly defence in these clips.
