Realistically this is a very fine side

I was convinced we were going to either get flogged (in the early part of last nights game) or blow the game late on. We were clearly flat in the beginning stages but the sign of a fine side is a side that can come from behind like we did, even if we were a little off.
I love being 100% wrong about Barrett in earlier frustrated posts. He clearly knows what he is doing and the players clearly like playing for him. I love also being wrong about the makeup of the team.

If they were honest everyone would have to own up to thinking some of that at some point. I'm one.

Yes, we have a very competitive team with a lot of top players, but the loss of Sirro is huge. He is both a ball player, a strong runner, a try scorer and is a big man. His replacement is none of those things.
I'm realistic to know that injuries to even one of our key players will derail our good current form.
I think the way we played against Cronulla, with Sirro firing, and how we started against the Worriers is telling.
All teams have their ups and downs, and we are not as good in the wet as on a dry track. What I'm delighted about is the team spirit we are showing. I'd be a lot more confident of our on-going success this season if we had better back-up players.

They worked their way into the game nicely after such a dreadful start. As a team, they MUST eliminate 20-minute patches like that because a better team would have put 30 on us with that sort of start.

It's been years since I've felt this way about the team. My missus walked through the lounge room, looked at the score (my family say they can't be around me when Manly play), and said, "OMG, why aren't you screaming". 16-0 down, I said to her, "Barrett will have us come back & win it in the 2nd half, you watch".

Oh how I was wrong. 1/2 was through the 1st half, we changed our defensive patterns, played more direct up the middle, started to dominate, and rode right over the top of them.

Exciting times.

I think i realised that game how good korosaui is, he was superb. Those runs out of dummy half omg
Koroisau is a quality player who's sharpness can really take advantage of a good rolling forward pack.

The only issue is his slow inconsistent ball distribution from dummy half---which "can" become a bigger issue in slow grinding games and structured red zone attack---- allowing the defensive line to rush up as the ball travels in the air shutting down space and time along with reading the play.(Teams are doing this already)

They scored 16 points in 17 minutes, and we had virtually no ball. The refereeing was diabolical, the three tackle strip on Marty that was deemed legal killed any chance of momentum, instead ensuring the Warriors gained it. We were flat no doubt, however the Warriors took hold of that momentum and they were on fire. And we all know the NZ team have the ability to start red hot. Same as we know they have a history of fading and getting run down, especially in Perth. Pretty much went to script last night. Good win.

Manly contributed to this poor start by spilling the pill, conceding dumb penalties and having a very passive defence. The team showed its quality to get out of trouble. A start like that is fatal against a quality team.
