Rugby League Round Table Season 3

I'm not the biggest fan of James Graham, however with our head coach on the panel this season might give us some insight into our club and some off season content to disgest.

So Manly has a player with 'a clause' (presumably a get-out clause)... who might it be? Koula?

Why would he leave? 🤔
Life changing money. Pap & Lomax who are heavily linked to that new Rugby comp share the same manager. I’d guess we would have been trying to extend or take the option out of his contract for a while now

Koula has an option in his favour for 2027. He’s signed for next year, but effectively becomes off-contract on November 1st.

Still not sure if R 360 can definitely stack up financially , short term or long term
Talk of 6 sides initially and doubt if they will be able to find presumedly 120 + odd top level players to get it to that high a standard let alone the identity of any prospective sides in terms of representing individual countries
Unless it takes on some form of a Barbarian concept .
Then and even allowing for some variation in individual player payment , could be the best part of initially 200 odd mil or so to assure just player payments in one year , not taking into account , travel , accommodation , promotion and ancillary costs .
Probably some not inconsiderable cut for the organizers and promoters
And no Suadi Arabian money available at this stage
Exhibition type games to hardly cut it and R U in the present playing format , not the most entertaining of games and even allowing for a bit of a novelty factor with this concept
Know that streaming rights are coming more into vogue and can expect some level of gate takings but still looks like some quite shaky and unaccounted for financial demands and requirements to make it feasible or definitely feasible at this stage and even ongoing
Sure or very much doubt that the current organizers or promoters are putting their hard earned in early on or even at a latter time to try and make it viable
Wasn 't there some other attempt [ even for a limited time ] some years ago to try and start or consider a rebel R U comp based out of or from N Z , may have just been conjecture at the time but plenty of hurdles then , and can not see any different now

It's too late, but adjustments are needed for third-party deals and player retention in the wealthiest clubs. This was the closest season ever, and we saw the richest club defeat the second richest club.

Only thing that will make it work, is, if the saudis want it to work. They have more money than even Uncle Nick

Point taken and if the main Union nations and now the N R L hold firm with clear policies of severe bans and other future restrictions to allow any defecting players back into either code , going to or should be a major deterrent for prospective players in either code to enter into
At least in the N R L 's case , pleased that it has applied to player agents as well
Just like the Super League saga , has to be a war footing to protect the game and existing clubs so fair enough
If it can only attract players at the end stage of their careers doubt that the Saudis or any other serious money entities would be that interested or very inclined to start bank rolling or invest in a highly questionable sporting comp in terms of any general broad international interest or appeal which would then be on a limited scale or side

There are many entities around the world with more money than Uncle Nick mate. What he has is pocket change compared to most.
