So three ex players that have no experience running a top grade team at any level, whether that be NRL,SL or NSW/Q Cup? I think some people need to stop thinking that someone with Manly DNA is the only way forward
Now you want a coach who has run a team in NRL, Superleague or Cup? Not someone who has been an assistant somewhere. That would have ruled out a lot of good young coaches going round today.

The NRL is littered with failed coaches who were the "next big thing"..... wrong job, wrong time.

Someone who has a good history and a resume from a strong club like Panthers, Storm or Roosters would be where I would look. A few young coaches seem to have made the transition from assistant to head coach quite well eg Craig Fitzgibbon, Cameron Ciraldo and although early days Jason Ryles has been doing some OK things cleaing out the steaming pile of shxt that is Parramatta. I'll be surprised if Eels don't start to ascend the ladder in coming seasons,

Broncos are privately owned club aren't they? I am not trying to be a smart arse but out of interest why do the old ooys hold so much sway up there? Doesn't make sense to me but I hear it al the time on TV as well and I have never understand why?
Because of their success in the past , they very much run the joint

I'd put a lot into it. He was the whole reason he left the club.
The single reason why that winning culture and fierce competitive attitude was lost. DCE being made captain , the multi million $$ deal and his "brand fixation" and the retirements of those great players transitioned the culture of the club totally.

Adam O'Brien and Anthony Seibold are both ex Storm assistants under Bellamy. The whole prerequisite of a coach being in a good system is a overplayed. Almost every successful coach I can remember was a combination of the following. Hard edged, ultra competitive, confident in themselves, and most importantly a leader of men. These are the kind of attributes that tough young men can get behind.

No decent recruit is going to be impressed by a coach who repeatedly praises a teams poor performance. To be wanted by a coach who demands consistency and excellence will always be more appealing to any player in professional sport. I imagine it automatically boosts a players confidence.

Old Choc was right all along eh.

Watmough didn't exactly go onto bigger & better things at Parra though, did he? Nor did Foran. Neither did Gift at souffs.

I get the sentiment & emotion of the matter, but Choc complaining about DCE refusing to take a paycut to keep the gang together back then is akin to DCE going on national TV & spitting the dummy about not being offered a huge contract for another couple of years at Manly now.

Watmough is hardly the voice of reason, so I'm very wary of anything that might develop due to him having an axe to grind, & doing it from within he club itself. That's destructive. not constructive.

Just what we need another whiteant in the club.
Just come out and say it.
Watmough shouldn't be anywhere near our club and if you want to talk about him being right all along, all the kids from up here that went down for Manly trails etc etc were all told to avoid him without question.

… for every positive there are negatives … TBaz, Benji….i think coaches are overrated… 2 of the best coaches that have won premierships are fighting for the wooden spoon.

Just sayin’

What are the secret things that they supposedly don't know about running a team? In the example used by Phobia hd has listed four ex Manly players who are all super competitive and have played at the highest levels including SOO. I always chuckle at the old how can they run a team rubbish. How is Benji doing it? As if gaining years of experience as an assistant is somehow a prerequisite for success. These guys have been around this stuff their entire lives. The four guys he suggested would be a MASSIVE step up from Seibs in my opinion.

Benji was the head coach at the Tigers last year, and was allegedly doing the head coaching role behind the scenes in 2023, even though Tim Sheens was the name in the record books. The Tigers won the wooden spoon in both years (granted, they also won it in 2022). They've had some good wins, but their current position of 12th is not outstanding either.

I think this is the point... What is the lowest ladder position you would accept as part of a rebuild with another rookie coach? And when would you pull the trigger if it wasn't working?

You just know Matty and Choc will build a team from the bottom up juniors, less mercenaries, and they will build a team with Manly DNA.

I can't wait until Seibo is walked out. I have never felt any level of excitement with him as coach.

Don't you need good Juniors to start with. The type you rarely find on the Northern Beaches these days. Rugby League heartland it is no longer.

Can't argue with that either

Both of those coaches didn't serve long apprenticeships in winning systems.
