Sack Spoony Siebold

We have had so many f*cking injuries that our 17 is all over the shop…

Yes we have had some bad games but it is not like we have an actual “Top 30” or even a “Top 25”… we get pretty bloody skinny after our top 20…

This year by my rough count ... we have used 26 players in just 12 games ... (happy to be corrected) .. Can't be easy coaching ..

I don't think its looking knackered ... I made the comment a few weeks back that he looked disinterested / uninspired and probably wouldn't be picked for SOO .... tonight he was at his awesome best again .... attitude seems an issue for many of the games stars ... getting 100% from a player is where a great coach shines over a good coach .... imho
You could be right but I think sometimes we underestimate just how tough it is on the body playing footy at this level. And I note, that I never have. I was just been a park footy player.
Because of how he plays, he's usually getting belted by at least 3 defenders every run. It doesn't matter how big he is, it's got to take its toll. So I'm thinking sometimes maybe we shouldn't expect players to be playing their best footy week after week.
There have been a few games this year watching him at Brookie where he was spent. Shoulder probs, leg probs, to the point where he really should've come off. But he kept going.
So maybe those games where he looks disinterested, could just be him not 100% and he's being more conservative.
I'm not trying to make excuses for him and I know these days they have proper recoveries etc etc but it could be, it's just bloody hard to back it up every week.
Anyway, just a thought.

Cant be easy coaching Perspective .....
No Great feat is easy
No Premiership Winning Feat is easy
Many have tried and Many have been unsuccessful at the Pinnacle of NRL club success

Interestingly the so called experts are lauding seibolds tactics against the donkeys. Kick long to negate the impact of haas and
Carrigan and run a lot traffic at reynolds. I think reynolds made close to 40 tackles that reflected in his general play which was poor.👏🏻

I liked that they played disciplined footy particularly in the second half with minimal errors and dominated a decent back. For mine it was a great effort across the park and was what they should be delivering each week. Let’s hope they have finally realised they need that level of effort and concentration every week!

That tactic has been used repeatedly over the years. It's the most basic of game plans and hardly revolutionary. Kick long, well duh! And run your forwards at the leading half. Happens every weekend. I was more impressed by the defensive resolve of the entire group. Here's to hoping we can continue to perform at THAT level over the next month. Because it will go a long way to proving Tony is the right man for the job. And boy, do I hope he is.

Almost all of our wins have come against teams who have been out of form. I know people will say you only play as good as the opposition lets you, but you can’t deny teams like the broncos, cowboys (twice) and even the panthers were nowhere near their best in games we won. I will be confident we have turned the corner when we go head to head against a leading, in form contender and come out on top. I know we beat the raiders at home, but that was very early on and the ref gave us a big leg up in that one. Losses to the sharks (twice) the warriors and the storm suggest we are not at that level yet, and are exacerbated by losses to teams we should be beating (dragons, parra etc). Still, the spirit shown in some of our wins shows we have it in us, which is promising.

I don't disagree with a lot of what you say, but the Cowboys were not out of form when we played them in NQ, and the Panthers, while obviously having a terrible year by their standards, had thrashed the Roosters the week before. The Bookies had us outsiders for both games.

Personally, I don't see us really matching it with the top 4 teams this year unless Turbo miraculously gets fit, Paseka can come back from a terrible injury, and Jake finds a few yards of pace. All of those are a chance of zero to highly unlikely.

What teams would you exactly say are in form this year?

It has been all over the shop. Bulldogs yes...Raiders and Warriors...???

We are 3-5 against top 8 teams
And 3-1 against bottom 8 teams

So your point I guess rings true. Good news is our next 6 weeks is 4 bottom 8 teams and 2 byes.

This is where we need to bank points.

Strangely ... we also have the 4th best points differential ...

Apart from the 3 you mentioned, no team has been consistently good so far. My point was more that our victories have almost all been against teams not in form when we played them.

Define "in form" ... if every team is inconsistent ... what is this form you speak of ... do our wins reflect that we were in form going into those games?

Each coach each year assembles the best 30 players that believes will do the job for him
Knowing that they will all get an opportunity during rep time and casualty time
In a highly competitive NRL comp it is never easy being a coach
They are the first to go when they can not get their teams going

I can usually tell if a team is on by watching the game. If you look at the match day threads for most of our wins, you will find plenty of comments about how **** house the opposition was. I’d like to think we forced them into playing poorly, but that might be over egging it. When the opposition has turned up to play, we have generally been found wanting eg warriors, storm, eels, dragons. The only exception I can see is the raiders, and even the most one eyed manly supporter could see we got the rub of the green that night.

Put it another way. Which of our wins gave you confidence we are genuine title contenders?
