Sean Keppie

Not wanting to steal anyones' thunder as it was mentioned in signings that Keppie was rumoured to have signed for 2019,but as it is not a discussion thread I decided to post here.It looks like it is not a rumour but a done deal from other sources I have seen. The story is that he wanted a spot in the Eels 30 man squad or at least a spot in development squad, but as Eels stack their squad with a lot of experienced forwards, they could not find room in their 30 man squad and had other priorities for their development squad. His manager has supposedley then shopped him around and looks like we have snapped him up,if this is the case then it looks like we have either offered him a spot in the 30 man squad for next year or at least offered him a $60K contract in our 6 man development squad.Looks like he is more a lock forward than prop....

Good work Joe , Thanks for the info.

Certainly is a done deal for 2019. Sean Keppie has been in Parras system all the way through Harold Matthews, SG Ball and NYC. Has always been an honest hard worker but not a standout. Made 2016 Australian Schoolboys team. Tall with a good motor and very good in defence especially front on tackle technique but doesn’t offer much in attack particularly hit up metres.

Did well to last as long as he did at Parra as they have an abundance of talented middles in the 18-21 age group such as, Tupou x 2, Dressler, Utkaimanu, Kafusi, Hughes, Cronin, Harris and Stone. Some at Parra rated him whilst others considered him surplus to requirements.

The question is do we really need him? Our 2017 U20 middles in Faatui, Tarrant, Paseka and Jesse Martin were all superior in performances and stats. We also have Titmuss, Tepu-Smith and co coming through from SG Ball. He was off contract and never going to get a top 30 or development contract at Parra and his manager has been shopping him around since before December. We currently have Cust, Tarrant, Andrews, Kiaoa, Maarbani and Smalley all off contract, wouldn’t they be a priority, especially Cust, Tarrant and Andrews.

Maybe he is a replacement for Jessie Martin who went to Souths, personally I would have just resigned Martin. Anyway Sean Keppie you are now a seaeagle and have your chance. Good luck and train hard young man.

I don't know if a development squad contract for 2019 was out of the question,my understanding is that he was told to play his contract for 2018 out and discuss it again after the season...I love the way Martin plays but not sure how long his NRL career will be at that size and playing like that, might be better as a bench utility.Tarrant tries but we all have our different views on players and for me he is a bit of a plodder...more a Starling/Tyrell type, good as depth but not sure of him as a starter at the next level and not really a bench player, maybe in another 8-9 years people will talking about him like Glasby, but not sure. For me Keppie has a higher ceiling but as you said, the deal is done and as a Manly supporter lets hope he does well...Any idea if Faatui and Mau are playing with Blacktown this year or somewhere else?

Yeh I’m pretty sure both Faatui and Mau both at Blacktown. Looking forward to seeing how both play against men.

Speed is probably the number one assett an athlete can have, and I deffinately agree that Tarrant’s leg speed is not his strong point, but neither is Jake Trbojevic’s. Players adapt their game. Tarrants game revolves around a high work rate, defense and aggression, don’t know if that’s enough to get him to the next level. I have been surprised in games where Tarrant does seem to possess some speed after winding up and then others where he plods into the line. Seems he can move it’s the off the mark acceleration that is the problem. Cust and Faatui are the same. Keppie isn’t any quicker but he offsets this with footwork. His detractors have also referred to him as a plodder. Shaun lane?

Martin was an all in action type of player like a Watmough. Agree that going forward with his size injuries and on field discipline may have been a problem however his footwork and acceleration were a huge asset in his game. Would have like to have seen him develop a bit more here.

I actually though that the Martin boy we lost was the taller one, rather than the shorter, aggressive one? But may well be wrong...

Well, that shows he can run hard and straight, and tackle. Is there a separate video showing he can actually pass the ball?

Fox Sports Market Watch

Manly have landed one of Parramatta’s brightest young stars.

Market Watch can reveal the Sea Eagles have signed 20s gun Sean Keppie on a two-year-deal starting 2019 and while there’s been a lot of uncertainty around Manly’s salary cap, Keppie’s deal has been registered by the NRL.

An Australian Schoolboys representative, Keppie has been a standout in the 20s this season after a successful year in the NYC in 2017 where the Eels made the grand final.

Keppie will see out the remainder of this year with the Eels before joining the Sea Eagles’ top squad next year.

Apologies @Batty i just saw you beat me to this is the confirmed signings thread!

He played Lock for The Guildford Owls (which is part of the Parramatta Club). How that translates to the NRL, who knows.
