Site slowness and maintenance today

I will be running some backups and fairly intensive routines in preperation for the upgrade today and this may result in some slowness for the site.

After a lot of evaluation, I am looking at the option of not doing any site upgrades for the main site. It appears that the content of Silvertails.net is extremely slow when using the latest versions of Joomla.

Even with significant caching there is still an unnacceptable lag for much of our content.

What this means for the future I do not know. But we can not stay on Joomla 1.5 for much longer as it is now EOI.

I will update Joomla 1.5 to the very latest of 1.5 and then it will be time to evaluate different platforms for 2012, however the season is fast approaching and I need to make a decision soon, as there is a lot of development work ahead of me.

I tested a few alternatives and none really seem to do the trick.
Fixed a bug with the newer joomla version but speed wise it's still shocking

At old McDonalds now you can get one which is EIEIO.

That is EOL but didn't hold shift for the L.
It stands for end of life
