Hi All,

I have just had a look at the sports news website - anyone else pick up the similarity between certain posts?

Take a look at this one

http://www.sportsnews.com.au/news.php?extend.651

Then compare it to

http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,15107545-23214,00.html

It is a very simple re-write. Highlights include

Ben Kennedy will also be returning at lock after resting last weekend as his teammates thrashed the South Sydney Rabbitohs. (Sportsnews)

Manly will welcome back veterans Terry Hill and Ben Kennedy. (Fox sports)

Or how about

Manly centre Terry Hill said Hasler spoke to the players last night in preparation for the match.

"Des talks like that all the time," Hill said.

"This is a big game and we will be throwing everything at them [Brisbane]. We are going there to win.

"Des is very professional and the place is happy again.

"He is not just a motivator but also comes up with great game plans.

"Des is putting in the time and getting the results. He is very up-to-date on everything." (fox)

Des talks like that all the time," Hill told the Sydney paper.

"This is a big game and we will be throwing everything at them [Brisbane]. We are going there to win."

Admittedly at least here it is stated that hill "told the paper" either way i am not sure it is right to claim this story as "by Haig etc"

What do you reckon?

You will find that many of the writers of sportsnews work for many of the other sports news sites.

I know the owner personally and there is no way he would plagerise.

The reason things sound similar as well is that they are written from the same press release 9 time out of 10.

LSZ I can understand why it seems that way, but it's highly unlikely. You'll find that many major papers produce similar articles, especially when there factual.

To be honest, I go to www.sportsnews.com for everything on sport these days. Except manly that is.

Every news report has sounded very similar for this story. - all off the same press release.

Flip - i didnt realise you were such a good looking bird.

The management over at sportsnews is somewhat concerned that there is the imputation that there is some impropriety with their site. They've approached me as a moderator at this site to set the record straight. This is the information I was given. It answers the questions that have been raised:

The following news article links from fellow reputable sports sites and their references to other sources shows how the media works:

http://www.sportal.com.au/motorsport.asp?i=news&id=65256

http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,15161848-23216,00.html

http://www.abc.net.au/sport/content/200505/s1358891.htm

http://www.sportinglife.com/football/story_get.dor?STORY_NAME=soccer/05/05/03/SOCCER_Chelsea_Lampard.html&TEAMHD=soccer

These all source other publications/sites/shows referenced by other media - everything is used and passed around; from the Evening Standard in London to the BBC to AAP to ABC, etc, etc...

Simply, this is common and accepted practice - welcome to the world wide web and the world of media news.

SportsNews will only claim exclusivity when it has it, just like The Daily Telegraph claims it when it has it. If it does, we credit the newspaper with their quote or story; when we do, they can credit us...

I find it interesting that Haig couldn’t grace us with his presence by setting the record straight himself. Each to there own I suppose.

Aha very true,

Or maybe he's going for a job with the Football club, he seems to show the self reverence required?

!amazed  What can I say I’m proud of my "ORIGINAL" work! And at least I had the gumption to explain my reasoning for adding the watermark.

Good comeback all the same Haig 😀
