Journey Man
As far as Qld goes......I honestly wish them luck if they think Tom Dearden is going to look any better behind what is pretty much exactly the same forward pack that got their ar$es handed to them in Game 1.
As a halfback I don't think he brings anything more to the table other than a pair of legs that are 12 years younger.
I moved your post over hear to throw in a reply about origin:
NSW are running with 2 halfback and no 6, it didn’t seem to bother us, no argument it’s probably better to have a seven either side of the ruck and in the end may even be an advantage if you look at having a playmaker, game manager and 2 great kicking options either side of the field.
QLD will run out with 2 five eights, not quiet the same, but if I was to guess, just in relation to your comments, Dearden adds plenty, Daly doesn’t play tough, Dearden plays the origin brand, tackles everything with venom, competes, is happy to run the ball into line and take his medicine, will play make into the line and yes his 12 years younger and has an awesome motor, granted his not probably a 7 or not completely just yet, but I think he will be a good one in time to come, his days at 6 are over, with Purdue playing 6 in his club side.
Now getting in Slatters head, I think his picked a stronger side, because he knows his forwards are up against it, so Dearden will bring energy and extra work to supports his big men, yes it should be the other way round, but bare with me, Fermor didn’t offer much in game 1 and Capwell is probably playing as good as he ever has, his club form is great and he’s played many origin games, he will be good for them v Fermor (Fermor’s a good player and I’d rather he be playing for QLD especially this game) then I think Holmes will miss the starting side, Howarth will come in, his a big body and his carries are the equal of having an extra edge, so I understand why DCE was not retained, on top of his club form, personally I don’t think he played that poorly in game 1, QLD just needed a way to assist their pack and this is pretty much Slatters best option. DCE’s time in the origin arena is up, had QLD won game 1, he’d be there, but it’s over now, anyway I’m as blue as blue can be, so I don’t really care what happens to QLD, I tipped us to whitewash them before the series, I still think we will, however QLD have picked a side to give their side it’s best chance to counter the blues pack, will it work? It might, as I said it’s a stronger side than game 1.
