Yes, I encountered the same thing. Looks like the NRL is not just content with a $1.2 billion TV deal, they also want to make a few lousy bucks from the supporters who want to catch up on a game that has already been televised.

I used to watch a lot of games via the NRL site as well, bummer it's no longer free. If you sign up for the season pass at $90 or whatever it is you'll have access.
