We will never go anywhere playing Walker at 6 when the whole purpose in signing him was that he is a centre.

He is not a REAL game-controlling half, and that is what we NEED because DCE is not one either. Fullstop. I don't believe Cust is either.

Offload whoever we need to so we can buy one. There are plenty in our squad who are not worth their money...ditch some of them and promote 3 or 4 young guys to our 30 on minimum wage. We don't NEED 30 players to play FG in a season, it is just an NRL rule. 32 is plenty including 6 Devel guys.

We don't have the money to spend that the big-money clubs do...we NEED to be a LOT smarter.

I agree with everything you said other than your Cust comment,yet.I don’t think he’s been given the chance to show his full range because the team has been on the back foot most of his time and he hasn’t had the chance to play much first grade with TomT,who has though.Early in the season when Walker was said to be playing well at 5/8,Tom was in the side carving up on the left,making Walker look good.And if you watch Cust,most of the time he gets the ball on a short side with little room.Now that’s either of his own doing or a lack of direction/plan from the one that’s supposed to be running the show

Jorge is trained to jam in, it's part of our defensive structure or lack thereof, when you grow up and wipe away the tears my so called abuse caused look at all sliding teams where wingers jam in, you'll notice the fullback ends up sliding into the wing spot to varying degrees of success, our backups are either to slow or dumb to cover the wing which is THEIR job, not the bloke who's coached to jam in

It wont be any egg on face of posters... the Manly doctors deemed him fit enough to play for warriors so the ST crew would prefer to see him play for Manly... not sure how that is such a contentious issue but apparently it is...

I'm going to be very interested in what Des does with his selection this week. Its been forced on him, but he may just finally start to be flexible and bring in some fresh talent. Doesn't really matter if they lose. What's important is that they get the experience for next year and they feel like they are part of the team, not just a third wheel. I also hope that Des listens to what some on the members on this site, including you Cherry Pops, have been identifying as a flaw in tactics, that being to contract towards the centre and leave the wings exposed. Teams with pace have been exposing this for weeks, especially given our backs have been so slow. Here's hoping finally a new dawn appears.

He's got loads of talent. Hopefully Des will allow him to be free to use it and see just how good he could be. Same goes for a couple of other kids eg Schuster, Metcalf, Anderson Burbo etc. A bit at a time of course but that's how the successful sides this year have been handling it.

Parents are often sticks in the mud. But they'll usually come around if they see their kid getting a decent shot. Sure Hopa is saying foolish things. Good heavens he's hardly the first one. Try attending a kids football match, which I suspect you have. That's part of the deal. That's reality. You deal with what you've got, but you try your level best to hold onto those you seriously suspect are going to be stars. Woodsie I've been involved with people who make Hopa sen look like a saint and had cups of coffee with them in their kitchen. Its how you treat them. Some are totally illogical, some actually insane, but there are ways of dealing with it. That's what we humans have had to deal with for hundreds of thousand of years

Agree .... but the modern coach has a stable of 36 testosterone and ego powered, sometimes unstable personalities to deal with .... whilst I agree, every effort should be made to deal with all sorts .... at some point it behoves the player to fit in ... or fukk off ..

While it's good that Albert has been recalled from loan duty at the Warriors & looks to be debuting for Manly this week, I'm concerned at how it appears to have happened.

There is obviously more going on behind the scenes than we're aware of - it won't simply be a case of Des being over-conservatively stubborn nor will it be purely a case of Casa de Hoppa trying to force Des' hand by threatening to walk but is likely to be somewhere in the middle.

What concerns me about it is, in light of John's now-deleted comments, it does look like the Hoppa family spat the dummy, threatened to walk & have now got their way, possibly setting a precedent for other dissatisfied players in the future.

Considering Hoppa senior was all over the media as being the self-appointed father figure for Fainu when he was under his online porn investigation last year, & we know Fainu, Suli, Ola etc are very tight as a group, what's to stop Hoppa snr from going into bat any time one of them feels dissatisfied at how they perceive they're being treated by the club down the track?

If we sign Albert, make it for five years, and tell all other clubs if they want him they can have him, just have to take John as well.

Did he cause disharmony or a split in the playing group ... or ... was he just different ....winning games and talent will always get you a fair amount of licence ... and there are always exceptions .... but you need to have some runs on the board to get it .... for every Rodman there would be legions of blokes at the bar who blew their shot at stardom by being numbnuts at a young age ....

Really should not matter if Albert has not played any footy this season , neither had Hamole until a few weeks ago and if considered fit enough to have a run with the Warriors , should be good to go for Manly . Probably centre or wing . Realize that Miski and Harper may come into consideration also but no point recalling young Hoppa if he will or could be still overlooked again . Just stands to reason surely . If he is going to show anything of ability at N R L level now , does not matter if it is at Manly or the Warriors , would still attract the same level of interest . Probably will mainly come down to money where he may end up in the short term, Bulldogs with Will there and ability to make a reasonable offer may be a factor but also would still like to think [ maybe wishful ] that if can step up to the grade , and Manly make a competitive offer that he will seriously consider staying . Not too sure how personalities come into it , other Manly players have been quoted as saying that they think that he has real ability and sure that they would not mind having him as a team mate if the opportunity has arrived and of course like now . If Des goes for Jet Ski as centre over Albert , there really has to be an investigation on team selection reasoning

And what is coaching all about. People management. Teaching and training all sorts of very different personalities to fit into a workable unit. Sure sometimes it doesn't work. Some are just too damaged by sociopathic tendencies (bring on Trump). But usually young people are more mouldable. And confrontation except as a last resort never works. It just alienates. There are no rights and wrongs here. Its all about personal perspectives. We might criticise Hopa sen for example for his attitude, but is it wrong? No. It is just his perspective, point of view, and we all see things differently. The trick is getting to see the person you are facing through their eyes. Understand their wants. There's almost always a middle path. Impossible in reality you may say. However it is possible to at least understand their perspective , even if it seems totally different from yours. Fundamental lesson in people management, and even taking on your opposition. Get to know how they think. From there negotiation can begin. I'm sure they are aware of those principles, but to give up too soon, especially when there's gold to be found in them there hills, is your loss.

And my point is that the coach knew he had to be treated differently, was and the bulls and Rodman have championships because it worked.
