The Daly Cherrygraph

My final post for the evening on this topic is in relation to the two "competing" media companies.

If you look back throughout the years, DCE has made sure that he doesn't engage or entertain anything or anyone employed or associated with NewsCorp or Fox (he's never forgiven and will never forget how the Courier Mail treated him with respect to the Titans deal, and by extension, The Daily Telegraph as well).

He has, over the years, made himself available to Fairfax/NEC on a more regular basis hence why the "leak" came from DW and he will appear tonight on 100% footy.

The counter-story re the Penn/Mestrov/Club being released by the NewsCorp/Foxsports organisation is merely them trying to play catchup.

Poor Bulldog Ritchie, how he longs for the old days of the MWFC where he would have his copy proof-read by certain former employees to ensure the agenda was set in the manner and tone required by the individual at the Club most of the times, at the expense of the Club.

I don't get the balanced cap argument for a couple of reasons. A genuine marquee half is going to be a better spend in the cap than a couple of better forwards and an average half. Cronk and Cleary suggest that 7s are more important than forwards. Then you factor in that the cap has increased significantly. Once upon a time, a mil for a 7 was outrageous and only a few could demand it. Moses Mbye was earning 800k 6-7 years ago. DCE on 800k-1m is not an overspend on the cap.

The calculus changes when he is playing on past the age that most players retire at. There are a lot more uncertainties about his body's ability to keep it all up.

Still a great player but I don't see him extending with us unless its the highest offer or close to it.

You can't say he is loyal, he shopped himself around in the media last time, him and his partner seemed to love the media attention at the time, I remember seeing a news report of him meeting Cronulla.

The only reason he has been here so long is because of the 10 year contact he signed after agreeing to play with the Titans, if that was a 5 year contract we probably would of gone through the same games when that expired.

I hope he does stay and becomes a 1 club player but not at the expense of killing our next 5-10 years.

this was likely decided mid last week or earlier, and DCE got the gig on 100% footy tonight only to minimise the damage to his reputation that potentially could occur. I cant expect that if he signed elsewhere that it could possibly remain a secret until later in the year, but why not show some level of class, just play it out between the clubs, make a decision, inform both clubs, and Manly organise a press conference to advise he's staying or leaving.

This is the club captain, and to be honest, does not surprise me one bit. He will play politician tonight, I love the club, been good to me.....

Dylan Brown just got $1.3M per year, every year for the next 10years… Ponga about to get $2M per year for the next 2 years…

Meanwhile Manly are rocking up to our 10 year captain (who happens to be the current SOO captaining halfback) cap-in-hand saying “we can give you $800K this year but we will need to reassess if you are worth anything to us after that…” smfh…

Yes it's very convenient/coincidental that he was already booked to be on the show tonight!

We shouldn't be baselining signings on Newcastle's ridiculous signing of Brown though

I think the best question to ask is usually - would Melbourne do this?

Hope he stays, it needs to be fair to both parties, have no idea what the negotiations are.
If it is not fair from the clubs perspective then if he wants to go then so be it,if the offer is lowball then obviously the club is looking in another direction(and a bit of a slap in the face).
For me I would be sorry to see him go,but will not change my support for the club.
Actually would be ok with Sexton on a decent one year deal if DCE does leave.
