The Daly Cherrygraph

Cameron Smith was one of the few that did it , just as good in his last year as ever.

The Dollar Chaser will find it harder & harder to stay with the kids so I agree I’m pleased the club didn’t sign him longer.

To be honest I just don’t know why he didn’t , announce he was retiring at the end of the year , pick up a cushy job in the media , and then work his way back into coaching at some point.

His reputation would be intact , and let’s face it he’ll still be able to earn a motza from the game in the next decade without having to **** in his nest.
I think he probably wants to take the most games played record off Smith. What I don't understand is why he didn't just keep his mouth shut about his intentions. Or at least announce it at a joint press conference with the club, rather than going rogue on Channel 9.

I'm guessing he traded a guaranteed job after footy for the exclusive.

Should be obvious Mark. He loves the game. He's developed a range of skills few wll match and has worked hard to reach that level. Yes, he could pick up a media job, maybe get into coaching and eventually administration. But its not the same. He's the alpha male at present. He's back to cadet in the other roles. Very focussed and disciplined. Reminds me of a young Des Hasler. He also switched clubs late in career and played until he was 36. These types of players train damn hard and achieve a higher degree of fitness than the vast majority. Probably party explains their longevity and low injury rate

A lack of contact also helps with longevity and low injury rate.

Cant agree there. Both players were noted defenders and active in attack, so they made contact very regularly.. It demonstrated just how fit they were. I remember stories for instance of how Hasler used to jog backwards up Darley Road Manly near the old hospital. Cant say if that's just an urban myth but it was one that existed around the time Hasler was playing for Manly

Mother time catches up to everyone eventually very few players can play at the top level past 34 years of age let alone 36. I’m glad we haven’t sunk another 2 million into him. Time to forge ahead.
I'd be happy with 600 to 700k but not another 1m+ contract. Financialy he's done alright for himself and his family over the 15yrs with us. Enough is enough already.

Yeah, I wasn't talking about Hasler, trust me.

Which ever club he plays for, surely the manly players know send all traffic his way every set, as his continual arm grabbing and running out of the line (although not as bad lately) constantly pulls in defenders either side of him. I envisage he wouldnt handle the likes of Ola/Koula etc power running too well.

DCE FAREWELL

The tension between Manly Sea Eagles skipper Daly Cherry Evans and the club’s management appears to be easing.

CEO Tony Mestrov is already planning for his farewell game at Brookvale Oval in the Round 27 match against the Warriors to give fans on the northern peninsula the opportunity to say goodbye.

It will be a highly emotional for DCE after 15 years at the club.

Sounds like something Mestrov has leaked. Why we giving this grub a send off? not as though he is retiring as a manly player.

He can't wait to leave after ****ting on us on national tv no send off needed just see you later.

Failed kicks, gifting possession, on tackle 1 and 2 are pretty much standard fare these days.

Bring on Fogarty, and some guaranteed structure.
