The Daly Cherrygraph

Personally, I think if he retires, it's one of the greatest own goals of all time; so bad in fact that he has no choice but to play on. Otherwise, his victory lap - i.e. final season - simply involved pissing off his own supporter base, tarnishing his legacy at the club, and derailing the entire season; that's some parting gift and some of sort of horrible way to say goodbye.

I don't think there's even the slightest chance he retires for that reason.

I know there's a lot of emotion around the way he's handled things and I totally get it, but the sight of him looking dejected around his wife and kids reminded me that it's only a game and he's only human. I can't hate the guy, even if he's done this to himself.

For all of us who despise the Chaser there’s just as many who thinks he’s been hard done by.

To drop him NOW just before his 350th would be as weak as piss from the clubs perspective and other players would look at that and say “ yeah that’s club I’m never going to regardless of how much they offer “.

They’ll play him , as they should , he’ll get mild applause , as he should , but there will be no special presentations , speeches , and that’s exactly as it should be.
But that's the thing, it never should of gotten to this point. The decision to cut cherry loose should of happened as soon as he went crawling to the media

All this rubbish about it being disrespectful to not play him for his 350, I actually find it disrespectful to Beaver to break the most capped player for the club. Beaver lived and died for the club and he deserves to hold the record way more than dce.

It all feels a bit like cameron smith hanging around to get himself written into the records book, all about him and not the club

He is probably regretting going on channel 9 a few months ago and airing his dirty laundry.
He should have said nothing and waited to seasons end saying the roosters offered a deal he couldn’t refuse if he was still playing well.

The way he has been playing he could have said time has caught up with me and I’m retiring from playing.
He would have saved his reputation if he retired and no matter where he ended up as an assistant coach or in the media.

I'm with you, Leonard. (Except for the bit about not hating him: you're a better man than I am on that.) He's painted himself into a corner and I don't think he's going to retire. He was always going to the Roosters and that is where he will end up, even though they don't need him and their fanbase definitely doesn't want him. But that's one of the reasons I want them to have him.

Personally, I will feel cheated if he doesn't go the Roosters. They deserve him and he deserves them. It's a match made in heaven that I hope and trust will result in nothing but misery for all concerned. Bring it on, I say.

That's what a smart person does

Has he gone yet. Karma is a bitch.

He ****ed our season, can't wait to see the back of him.

Don't forget people he won a premiership in 2011 so many star players around him. He then signed with the titans and did the backflip to sign the 10yr deal. In hindsight I wish he hadn't backflipped.

We have not won a premiership since.

Agree mate……I don’t hate him but I’ve lost all respect I did have for him.

Especially when you consider how Beaver want on to play multiple further seasons abroad, and at a high level.

Announce your retirement this week Daly. And do it wearing a Manly polo ffs.

If you leave it till last round (or even after) you'll look even worse. Salvage something from the wreckage of your long career with Manly!

He could wear a coco joy jersey!

Something deeply uncomfortable about the current media pile-on now with DCE. Of course we Manly die-hards are piling onto the bugger - but to see others, such as those not-very-highly-respected media pundits and 'experts' also piling onto someone who's still wearing Manly colours .... doesn't make me feel better.

Sudden thought. .. DCE's decision to publicly reject Manly while still our captain, with a full season to go, has offended our most basic expectations of sporting team culture. You stick together, you support your teammates and your club, you deal with issues discreetly inside the 4 walls, ie do not publicly embarrass your club and mates by ****ting in your own nest and broadcasting it on Channel 9.

We (at least a lot of us here on ST) are appalled or even outraged by Daly - our longstanding, decorated club captain and premiership winner - failing to understand this basic aspect of rugby league - indeed, team sport - culture.

Yet here's the thought. Maybe it is Daly who does get it, and we fans who are still labouring under romantic delusions of neighbourhood games and 'sporting team culture'.

Daly gets it. NRL is not sport, certainly not sport in the way we understand junior or local comps we played in for fun, or even the game as it became semi-professional. It's becoming Rollerball.

The post-super league era has produced an entertainment product - "NRL" - in which franchises sell merchandise and players get their bodies and even brains turned to mush for our viewing entertainment. In this show, the players' survival becomes their paramount consideration. They'll stick together on-field in their mutual interest, and off-field in enterprise bargaining. But loyalty to their franchise? When franchises routinely make ruthless decisions on players?

We fans are stuck with this dedication to the colours, imprinted on our psyche from years past. DCE tossed our romantic delusion in the bin, and that hurt. But is it really DCE who doesn't understand what it's all about - or is it us!!

Not sure, just a thought that came to mind as I typed 🤷‍♂️
Anyhow - Go Manly, piss off DCE!
