I love Des passion and fight.
Personally wanted him gone forever after 2011, but as a Manly man I forgive and forget....if we get back that winning culture and welcome him back with open arms hoping for that competitive footy side Ive supported over 30 years...
Not gunna put the boot in, but Des is with the Dinosaur era and does not get the modern game as well as other coaches imo...
Why ??
Well watch EVERY other team, even those with similar standard players to ours, which is approximately the bottom 10 teams and they will play a far more up tempo style game than Manly.
Pi**ed me off watching teams like Illawarra look like Superstars because of the side being simply "off the pace"
Penrith will put on 70 next weekend with that form and style of footy....can we at least try speeding up the game 10%....will make the scoreboard prettier and even give a shot if winning a few games

Our attack is one dimensional. In the opposition's 30m zone, there's no deep set attacking structures with players running at speed and at different angles with multiple decoys. Instead it's painstakingly slow, lateral movement along the line to players frequently caught flat-footed, having to improvise as individuals. That, along with the appalling handling/piss poor completion rates, just saps the players' energy and confidence. I'm totally perplexed as to why we don't even try to emulate the attacking structures of the successful teams. If you get your attack right/ consistently complete your sets, the confidence lifts, and in turn the effectiveness of a team's defence.

It was literally a replay of our darkest Baz era days in the attacking red zone.

I think in truth Des has for some strange reason, persisted with the attacking structures that got him the boot out of the Dogs years ago.
Manly actually showed glimpses of attacking shifts against Dragons and were rewarded with line breaks, but lacked the speed and cohesion to convert to points with Parker and Garrick either rounded up quickly or passing too early or simply...dropping the ball.

74-4

I think I’m disconnecting Foxtel.

Waste of money paying for it this year.

The style of play is outdated. For the last dozen or so games we got totally lapped in doing the basics of the game.

We dont seem to achieve fast play the balls, our sets are staring on our own line as we consistently lose the battle for field position and we have a coach that is loyal to failed and error ridden players.

We need a succession plan and we have allowed 2 young coaches in David Heath and Wayne Lamkin to leave the club after they achieved some magic with their Holden cup teams of 15 and 17.

I fear it will get a lot worse before it improves as we now see the stubborn side of Hasler, in denial about what the real problems are.

You will NOT win games when you disrespect the ball and force your overworked defence to cover this. You CANT win many games when you persist in playing players out of their normal positions. Fullback is a vital position in the game and the teams with quality 1s are the teams that star their sets on the front foot, without Tommy Turbo we are not even close.

To not have a specialist 9 is ridiculous!! We have known for 16 months now that Fainu is not going to be playing for the forseeable future and all through 20 and this season we have not done anything to address this big gap.

We are at the point of no return now, I understand it will get worse before it improves. What we need to see is rapid improvement!

Panthers have been up for three weeks, playing at a high standard. I am predicting the Panthers will put in a 40 minute effort. Panthers will lead 28-0 at half time and just stop dead, or get dragged down to our level. They will run out 36-26 winners, we will get a few junk time tries, and Des will praise our second half effort in the presser and make no changes. Cleary will be ropeable, which will show exactly where both clubs are at...

That would look good on paper , I see it going a completely other way.

Halftime 28-0, Cleary says to his team “ points differential might be the difference between 3rd and 1st/2nd so we need to absolutely hammer them in the second half.

At 50-0 it will be party time , and come on boys four more converted try’s in the last 15 minutes.

At 74-0 with 3 minutes to go , the referee will feel sorry for us , give us two penalties in a row, sin bin a Panther for holding down and give us a wide out try.

Garrick will miss and it’ll finish 74-4.

And then the Warriors who will be kicking their lips on anticipation.

And then our other bogey team the Titans.

Round 7 Tigers , maybe by then.

Yes. Des is a very defensive coach. Defence is still very improtant but the better teams have put more emphasis that before on attack since these news rules. the game has become far more attacking.

Apart from the new rules the warning signs were also present with Des in the final few years at the Bulldogs.

Des is a good coach but he hasnt changed when its clear the game has.

He is also a very poor recruiter and has made some terrible recruitment retention decisions.

Our neighbour is always happy to remind how Des let Damien Cook & Finucane leave the Bulldogs, then he came here and let Koroisau & AFB leave both great players.

Add on top of it he signs Foran who its clear from past few years cant run anymore

Hey Mark, I think even the tigers will be looking forward to our game, might be there opportunity to turn their year around.

If that happens I think it might just about be time to close up shop and hand in our licence.

Don’t be surprised, only thing that might save us is they know they’ll get the 2 and there’s no need to get busted, they had a pretty physical game against the storm, emotionally charged as well, then they face the raiders the week after us and know that will be another tuff one, going off south’s game last night that’s exactly how they played against us last week, they were awesome last night and stepped up to another level in preparation for the rooster, but if on the other hand mark is right and the panthers think points differential will matter and they want to keep honing their game and put us to the sword, I cringe at what the final score might be, they will win healthy in any case, it’s such a mismatch, if the boys can find a way to keep the score line respectable regardless of the way the panthers approach the game then it will be a positive result for us, but I really, really feel the pain deepening.

Apart from what has been said above we just don’t appear to be NRL standard fit which accounts for our dreadfully slow play and basic errors. Maybe we need a new fitness guru
