The New Beginning at MANLY 2018

In a somewhat dour season so far, besides a few magic moments.....there is almost a new beginning on the horizon....Great endings always start from humble beginnings.
The elevation of Paseka has been a revelation and prior to injury Tanginoa were looking the goods, both have big futures at Manly.
Tom Wright got his first Cameo run and though only a small taste - started with a win and will also feature in many more in coming years.
The form of Thommo has improved dramatically and is now up where expected, that rugged backrower hitting hard in defence and busting those edges in attack.
Young Suli has showed an Amazing change of Attitude and in a team the media claim is a basket case - this seems way off looking at a club that has transformed a kid on the slide, back into a young footballer with Mass potential.
Then when it becomes obvious the team needs a general who can manage a footy team around the park, the signing of a bloke who played SOO just a couple of years ago is employed to steer the ship, letting the games best centre play his natural game....and I must confess, I'm pretty excited to see what appears a more complete footy team, compete the remainder of 2018.

Thommo and Lane have really stepped up their edges in attack. A big part of that is Cherry now playing on both sides of the field. Hope that Baz keeps the same game plan with Hodko as well. Our second rowers thrive with Chez feeding them good ball.

Definitely alot of pluses there to keep us hopeful. All is not lost yet and im tipping us to be the smokey that comes from nowhere.

I'm tempering my expectations because, well, we've been pretty terrible lately and we're expecting a lot from a guy who was more or less washed up last year. As much as I'd like to get excited I need to see them put it all together on the park consistently before I go all in. Stop the dumb penalties late in the count, cut the stupid mistakes, provide better options late in the count. There's still a bit to fix outside of what Hodko can hopefully provide...

You had me, until you called Dylan Walker the game's best centre. We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one.

Lost to knights in golden point, lost to roosters by 2. If we won those games we would be 9th, one win off 4th place.

Its a close competition this year, unfortunately we are "struggling" but we are not as bad as the media make out.

Notice how all the articles have stopped after a win and a hodko signing. Baz was right a win shuts everyone up

Task to make the finals is now much more difficult but far from impossible.

Usually the aim is to win 3 from every 5 matches. That gives 30 points plus bye.

Now we need to 11 from 15 remaining games. That will gives 30 points, including the bye.

The thing we need most is NO INJURIES.

30 points isn't the number this year. There is only 1 bye. 28 is the number based on last year but i actually think 26 will do it given how topsy turvy this year is. So many upsets every week. Hard to tip

I always like to own up to my mistakes so I feel I owe Shaun Lane an apology. Last year I thought he was just an arm grabber in defence and showed very little enthusiasm but this year he has really stepped up, especially after the loss of Sirro. He made some really good meters getting us out of our own end last Saturdays night and comes across as a bloke who doesn't want to let his teammates down.

Spot on analysis my friend. Well done. There's lots to get excited about. Paseka and Suli have been a breath of fresh air and Trent's return to maroon is exactly what this team needs to win those close ones we've let slip a few times this season. My only concerns are silly penalties and the number of errors we make dropping the ball, but if we can cut them out ... watch out!

No need to apologise .... last year he was a useless big tit ....... but agree, congratulations to him for turning it around ....

... and again well done to Barrett for being an outstanding coach for getting the best out of him ..... (had to put that in .. he he he )

I think ur right 26 will be close based on No one is getting away at the top. 28 guarenteed id think.

What is really really remarkable .... is that with 9 players out or unavailable ..... we are still having selection disagreements between Silvertails ........ any other year, with that many missing, selections would be a gimmee ......

As an example ....We now have knowledgeable people like @Bearfax calling for our #29 draft choice to get a start ....other people wanting Suli our #30 to replace Jake at lock or walker at centre ...... others wanting Sipley to get a run ....

In cricketing terms we are batting down to #11 .......

Great recruitment and coaching Baz .........

Yeah we are 3 from 10 and so are 3 other clubs, with raiders 1 win more, and squeels 1 less.

Tight season so far.
