The Realistic Cleanout

Imagine coming home to your wife and saying I've given up 1.2million because old mate on the Silvertails forum reckons thats what soneone who loves Manly should do...

In what world...

We knowingly offered and stuctured a deal to our benefit, Jakes effort is not in question. He is owed his deal.

We shop or pay him and I think we'd be foolish to shop him.

Good luck to him, cash in boy.

Effort not in question? - debatable, but his effort isn't enough anymore he's a passenger. Barely takes a run, couldn't bust a pimple let alone a defensive line.

But at the end of the day he's holding the team back now.

Its the real world - no one is "owed" anything.

Nonsense, in the real world organisations and individuals are bound by the contracts they enter into.

Unless Jake broke the terms of his contract he is owed his contract in full.

Yep, his defence is still good enough to have him as a bench player. I think he knows when it's time to give it away. Everyone can see that he's having trouble competing in attack and frankly, I don't reckon Tom would let him go on if he started getting embarrassed on the field.

And I think he and TKO are really needed to help bring on the young blokes we are trying to develop. Save any further injuries, one more year could see them both out and then hopefully he'll be offered a role in the club. He's too valuable as a clubman.
I'm interested why would you put Jake on the bench?

In my view he's better off starting and playing 20 minutes as a prop, as he is more suited in the early more physical exchanges. Then bring on the impactful middles like Bully etc when the game opens up

Yes 100% correct, as you are talking the pen/paper world. I'm just saying outside of all that, in life.

Sorry, when I say bench player, I mean not an 80 min player. Lately he's been given a token rest on the bench for a breather. I'm suggesting he is utilised either the way you are suggesting or more strategically like when the defence is clearly struggling through the middle and he is brought on to tighten that up so the game doesn't get away from them.

Also, the way he (and others for that matter) are used, can also depend on the team they are playing. Some teams are more known for fast aggressive starts and that's when Jake could be most effective - to nullify that potentially.

Anyway, I just feel we rarely give thought to who we are playing on any given week and we just go with the same game plan. I'd like to see it shaken up a bit and how we use Jake more effectively should be part of that coz he really doesn't have a lot to offer in attack, even as a starting prop.

Jake's love and loyalty is great but its time to put his health first.

He can have a job for life in any role he wants it just can't be a playing role.

As hard as that maybe for Jake to accept the game has passed him.

Until the club get that ruthless edge back we ain't going anywhere.

Jake has been on very good coin so its not like the club haven't looked after him during his career.

His loyalty has been repaid financially as well even if its been to the detriment of the team/cap.

I just dont think honest conversations are being had.

Jake does appear past his best by a way, yet top placed selectors still have him in their top options at SOO level - the fastest rugby league action on the planet- sure he was punted, but still on the very Top list by selectore "in the know"
I just want to add a different perspective on this situation....
The reason Jakes speed (or lack of) has been so highly pointed out and at times rightfully so, is the pack around him of Sipley, Lodge, Browney types, who also lack mobility and are in twilight years.
So if we have the more mobile Navale, Hetherington, Hart types to inject speed, suddenly his toughness and enthusiastic skills once again come to the forefront and he once again gives the invaluable leadership that does make a big difference.
On a flip note with say a half be it Munster, Andrew Johns or Cleary...i have seen them all look like duds behind a beaten pack and the way to get the best out of "any" player, is to have the right balance around them and I feel Manly will be introducing more youth in 2026 and this will help Jakes game, so he does not look so far "off the pace'....he won't suddenly become more youthful or faster, but will appear it in the right cattle.
The REAL issue with Jake is these head knocks, as I do fear for his long term well being and this should 100% be monitored moving forward.

I'd say though that there is potential he was being paid unders, therefore the large payment coming in 2026? If he retires, does he get the make-up pay for the years paid unders for?

Of course not, but why does the club have to suffer another season of plodding just so he can chase his dollars dream.
No one's bigger than the team.

Talking out of your arse mate. Obviously you don't know Jake, or you certainly wouldn't be using words like 'chasing his dollars dream'. Get real. Tell me the last time you've walked from a well paid job that you loved?
The club has to 'suffer' another season of Jake? Troll

It’s not Jake’s fault that in what well may be his last season that his body is starting to breakdown.

And he’s entitled to his dollars, it’s a contract !!

But , that contract certainly limits our ability to attract other players, that’s undeniable.

But there’s no more “ Manly man “ in our team than Jakie.

And should he our captain for 2026.

So you're telling me we're going to get value for money in '26 from Jake? Of course he's not going to walk away from a $1M+ season, he hasn't had that many concussions to not realise that.
But going off this year's efforts he's taking the piss.

But hey, he's heart and soul of the team and would do anything for them. (Except retire 😉)
