The season ahead

Des also had the luxury of playing guys like Beaver and later a young Ferris as his back row / utilities on the bench.

With regards to Lewis Brown, I think he will be on the bench primarily as a back rower with Hastings getting the utility role. I honestly can't see TB having a current Kiwi test player running around with Blacktown.

Ok, my own YART is.....

FB - Tom Trbojevic
WG - Akuila Uate
CE - Dylan Walker
CE - Brian Kelly
WG - Jorge Taufua
FE - Blake Green
HB - Daly Cherry-Evans
PR - Darcy Lussic
HK - Api Koroisau
PR - Nate Myles
SR - Martin Taupau
SR - Curtis Sironen
LK - Jake Trbojevic

Bench - Lewis Brown, Jackson Hastings, Addin Fonua-Blake, Brenton Lawrence / Lloyd Perrett.
What IMPACT !!! would Brown the current Kiwi international
gives us coming off the bench playing back row ?

@BOZO mate your guess is as good as mine, but I doubt Brown will be in NSW cup and if we use Hastings as the utility then I'd expect him to be a back row/utility bench player.

Brother , Mate , Feathered friend .
This is Barrett's critical year in his coaching career
and I believe he will be picking players on form
other wise he will end up in his rear
Seriously , This so called New Zealand Immortal will have to show better form from last season to EARN a 17 spot
He is not good enough to start and does not provide IMPACT off the bench so as far as I am concerned he can go and play NSW cup or for New Zealand 🙂

Oh I absolutely agree with you, but I just can't see him being played at Blacktown. I wouldn't have him there myself (I'd run with Perrett and BJ as the other bench forwards with AFB), but I'm not Barrett and I have a feeling that he considers Brown in his top 17.

For what its worth . Turbo . Jorge . Walker. Kelly . Uate . Green . Dce . Marty . Jake . Sironen. Afb . Api . Myles. Res . Hastings . Perrett . Winterstein. M wright . Lussick will replace myles. Marty to lock and rotate with jake .
What !!, No Matai ??

You really think Winterstein has done enough to warrant a spot? I'd take Kennedy over Winterstein purely for his work rate.

I know you and Parker have a thing going but I can't see him going in to FG this year. 2018 maybe.

Kapow back at prop is definitely an interesting one though...

Re kapow, it all starts and finishes with a powerful Front row, and that includes the 3 on the bench, no use having a kick arse front row for half a game. All DCE and Green's work will come off the back of them. With Kapow, Lussick, AFB, Lawrence and Myles we have the goods.

What is crucial to that set up is what was missing last year ..... 2 hard running, hard tackling and skilful 80min 2nd rowers. I just think that Sironen and Winterstein fit that space. It could be Lane (when/if he learns to play with a pair) and Kennedy, time will tell.

Parker has them all covered!

The really interesting Question is who is going to fullback when I put TomTurbo in the 2nd row.

In the interests of positivism I will undertake not to post anything negative about Barrett until the full time siren on round 3 for an 0-3 start to the season. After that time all bets are off. 🙂

Like a few others here I'm concerned having two wingers that are very suss under the high ball. Would be really disappointing if we improve our defensive structures only to be super susceptible to bombs in the corners resulting in a lot of tries. I wouldn't mind seeing Schuster given a wing opportunity at some stage - one of the clubs quickest men over 40m and with his fullback background looks pretty safe under the high ball too. Just a thought.

1) Turbo
2) Schuster
3) Walker
4) Kelly
5) Jorge
6) Green
7) DCE
8) Jake
11) Sironen
12) Lane

10) Kapow

Lawrence
AFB
Kennedy
Hastings

Floaters
Perrett
Brown
Uate
Parker
Myles (especially Myles very experienced at floaters)

Our Achilles heel, "looks" to be the wing area (again)......Horhay and Killa are well known for being poor under the high ball, so any good work done by the forwards, and halves in attack " might" be negated by the ease with which opposition teams score in our corners.

Time will tell with Uate, but the first 20 minutes of the all stars game convinced me he's still not very confident under the high swirling ball.

AND we are all aware of Tafua's credentials in that area.

No doubt both can find the line and will be strong in running the ball back up so that's a positive, but these days its just as important for a winger to be a good defender.

Anyway only time will tell, but I'm expecting Parker, and possibly Tom Wright to feature heavily during the year if this comes to fruition.

The 2016 Manly side was among the bottom four sides in our 70 year history. The only way is up.

Injuries are the key, we have had two bad years with those BUT also a group of aging players made that worse.

Get a reasonable run and we could do much better, but we might have to have a little patience until the team starts to gel, so I'm not expecting much for the first 4-6 weeks, 1/5 perhaps.

But we should improve and are unlikely to lose many (if any) for SOO, although Dylan might get a run.

I reckon 12th , but we could easily go higher 9th-10th, but not sure 2017 will be 1-8.

If we do lets have a Schooey to celebrate!!
