Just saying, how much better is the AFL’s “ trade period”, now over so apart from the junior draft clubs now know who they have for 2018.

Unlike the NRL, where we have to wait for ......,yep you guessed it.

Why can’t the dumb arse NRL do the same thing?

Oh that’s right, we have Turdburger!

Absolutely, the AFL have been saturating the Australian sports media as a result of their trade week as well. It’s just a win win situation for the code. And the NRL sit on their hands, do nothing and fall behind every year. Dumb as dog sh1te, how these clowns jag the massive salaries that they do is beyond comprehension. Spin merchants the lot of them, and even the spin that they throw out is third rate.

How dare you !!!..................suggesting transparency, fairness and showing respect for the fans.................this is the NRL, deals can only be done in dark corners, with dodgy agents, and illicit payments!

A trade period needs the support of the players union. It works for the AFL because they have a draft which everyone is on board with. We don't because the RLPA won't support it. It's a pity because it adds another dimension to the competition.

Personally would absolutely hate the trade period concept to take over in the nrl.

The NRL is a business, players should be signed to contracts when they want to sign to them, and this would take the fun out of rumours and limit it to a short period of time. No way jose

Players switching clubs mid season is horrific. The draft shortens the off season and regulates player movements. It is an absolute necessity. The under 20s comp is now gone. A system that allows each club to sign 2 local juniors and a family selection (I.e. father or brother or uncle) played for the club on top. That puts 160 new players on the market from juniors from the best 13 at each club. Each club selects 2 each on top of the previous 3 or a total of 5. These 5 players are cap free on the roster and add squad depth. The team that finishes last gets first pick through to the gf winner. It ensures weak teams get stronger. Or something like that.

Swapping first round pick 32 for a first round pick 22 is so exciting. How many decent players were swapped and didn't everyone already know that was going to happen months before hand.

Afl media spin..

Afl media spin..

Do some research lad. They don't spin and everything they do is so much better, and have done so for decades. **** all over us. Sticking your head up your arse and supporting the NRL ain't gunna solve the problem. I follow a lot of different sports around the world, and we are...let's say....bottom feeders when it comes to administration, marketing and professionalism. And if we don't start waking up and looking in the mirror, we are fukced as a football code.

Research about what? All I said was that the draft isn't the be all and end all..

Did we know Hodge was going to the Lions way before the draft?

Did we know Ablett was going back to the Cats way before it happened.

Didn't state the Nrl were better than the Afl in any way. Don't know why you were frothing in the mouth about what I said.. Maybe you are just an aggro dick.

So what the hell is your point mate? If you go back to the thread it states how much better does the AFL do it. And quite frankly, I'll bet my left or right nut (your choice) that 99% of this forum will agree that the AFL is so far above us, it ain't worth comparing.

And your complaint that everyone knew what trade x was doing for trade y, is exactly what most fkn sane NRL people are screaming for. A bit of consistency and transparency within a defined window!

I have no issue with someone whacking me on facts, or throwing up a solid counter argument, but FFS get your shop in order before throwing a flaccid punch.

Sorry, can let this go. I'm actually pretty close to HFC. What is your point about did we know and how does this relate to the thread?

Ablett..no idea and don't give a ****, but again, what does this have to do with the NRL?

The thread title is "trade week" not how much better one code does something better than another.

Can I comment on "trade week" and what I think about it without being accused of something else..

Your balls are not big enough for me to want to bet on..

Trade period won't work in NRL as our game has other competitors for our players. AFL has a closed labor force & can treat its players like cattle.

If the NRL had a trade period that would allow non-NRL rivals to negotiate with NRL players without any competing bids from NRL clubs.

Thats how the ARU got Lote Tuqiri way back when the NRL had the June 30 deadline on NRL clubs being allowed to offer a contract. It was the Broncos vs the ARU in a bidding war. The Broncos were also restricted by the salary cap. It should have been Broncos, 15 other NRL clubs and the ARU in a bidding war.

A trade period in the NRL in October would be useless if the player got signed in June by SuperLeague club, ARU or AFL.
