Aware that I am going to potentially open a can of worms up but here goes
Thoughts on the Australian election?
That’s a nice summary. Not really, it's just more of the same from both.
Lispy limpy vs Voldemort is hardly inspiring, now promises will get broken (both sides do it) and they'll now both blabber their way towards the next election so we can do it all again.
Re the media considering the views of the Murdoch press do you really think it was that much of an influence? Or are you talking about the “alternative “ media? That’s a nice summary.
Dutton lost (in a landslide) what should have been an unloseable election given the governments poor performance over the past 3 years. I put it down to;
- Duttons personality - unrelatable and unlikeable
- conservatives once again afraid to take strong policy positions and have the courage of their convictions in apparent fear of left wing media attacks. They seem to never learn that they won’t beat the left by just trying to be a little less left.
- the stupid nuclear policy
- the Reserve Bank interest rate cut at the start of the election period
- people worried about the massive changes trump is undertaking to reverse decades long trends like taffiff imbalances.
There is no sugar coating it, the election was a disaster for conservatives and in my opinion, for the country. All countries need a balance of left and right wing ideologies to strike the right balance - I fear the magnitude of this defeat will swing us too far in one direction. Can we survive another 3 years of sky rocketing energy costs, mass immigration on a scale never seen before (750k a year when the people we have here now can’t afford a home) and further cultural division?
Those taking pleasure in this result should ponder whether what we have been served up over the past 3 years deserves another 3, and where will we be at the end of it. Some of us lived through the Whitlam years when the country was very nearly run into the ground. Here’s hoping we can avoid that this time around.
I suspect the results of this election will keep the left in power for at least the next 2 terms. ( 6 years) it will be interesting to say the least especially considering that the left will likely have the majority in the senate. I am personally concerned about the resurrection of the communications bill that will essentially arbitrate ( from a government perspective) non mainstream media. It is fair to say that the government themselves especially during an election on both sides of the fence are the architects of misinformation themselves. That’s a nice summary.

I’m not going to get into yet another tit for tat as to media bias. Yes Murdoch press/fox is right biased. I can and have freely admitted that. What people on the left can never seem to admit is that mainstream media is decidedly left biased, particularly the state media organs such as the ABC and BBC. In this instance, the only reference to media I made was that Dutton was too scared to champion conservative values in what I can only assume was his attempt to avoid being demonised in the mainstream media.Re the media considering the views of the Murdoch press do you really think it was that much of an influence? Most of the time feathered friend 🙂As John Howard said, “The Australian people always get it right.”
It’s a pity John wasn’t always right, as I am sure many on the left would agree. As John Howard said, “The Australian people always get it right.”
Love how our ABC and Labor have jumped on Jacinta Price referencing a comment made famous by Trump, make Aust great again, in a short speech. This was all they needed, as they piled on Price for mentioning this. One thing about Labor and the ABC, they don't miss a trick.I’m not going to get into yet another tit for tat as to media bias. I agree. We shouldn’t overreact to a single election, but it is difficult to see what the conservative side of politics will champion from here. I worry we have started down the path of a single party state, which is good for no one. If the ALP can get reelected with a massive swing in its favour after the last 3 years, I’m not sure what it will take for them to lose government.Fair enough
I do agree that we need a realistic, viable opposition party. It’s a strange situation, I’m not even sure what conservative values are anymore after that campaign.
I grew up on the North Shore of Sydney (Johnny Howard was my local member for a while), then moved to the Northern Beaches. Until Zali Steggall was elected, I had always lived in the safest of safe Liberal seats.
There’s something missing from the Liberal/Conservative offering in my area. I don’t think a shift to the far right will work here for several reasons. But considering they’ve failed to find a message that resonates with former Liberal voters, they have reason to be concerned.

TrueIncluding this time.😉
I’m not familiar with him, but he does look like the archetypal villain from socialist central casting - good looking white male conservative. If he is the leader, he better have a thick skin.Good point
The media works both ways
No Excuses
Both Winning political parties prevailed against media bias
If you are Good enough you will win
Dutton and his Front bench were not Good enough
They All played a roll for the Liberals getting rolled
The leader loses the election by a land slide as well as his seat . Go figure
The Liberals need a new Leadership group
They Need New Blood
They do not need to recycle failures like Angus Taylor Sussan Ley and Dan Tehan
The Piercing Blue eyed Andew Hastie should be the New Liberal Leader who will captivate The Nation
