I achieved what I set out to achieve, & that was to demonstrate how Trump supporters will deflect, avoid, "whatabbout" & feign ignorance when it comes to anything critical of Trump, no matter how factual it may be.

Not too sure if there has been much attention to try and stop or even reverse the blatant take over and removal of Palestinians in the West Bank by Israelian settlers for some time now and which probably did add quite a bit of extra motivation and some sense self righteous justification [ misguided ] with the Hamas atrocities on October the 7 th but surely still one of the main stumbling blocks for some semblance of a longer term, more stable and peaceful situation in that hotbed of a region
Must still be dozens of tunnels from Egypt into the Gaza [ mainly Sth Gaza ] to ensure Hamas can still stay armed on a serious level so that has to be obviously addressed as well
Think that quite a few of the key or major players in the Arab League had started to come to the conclusion that any ongoing massacres or large scale killings of essentially innocent civilians in the Gaza strip just could not be morally justified and were able to help Trump and his negotiators to really put the hard word on the major players on both the Israelian and Hamas groups to temper things right down
Iranian proxies in the general regions there , very much depleted now , Hamas getting more friendless now , mass killing of civilians in Gaza virtually and thankfully stopped now and a basic right for some humane assistance for many still there ,
All enormous positives and to hopefully continue
Trump and his middle east team can certainly claim their share of credit and recognition but still unfortunately a long way to go to get some lasting peace and stability and a lot simply has to go right
Not too sure domestically with the repercussions of the tariff policies how the administration there is going to pacify the losers except throw hand outs to those affected and the U S has one of the highest debt to G D P ratios in the world , so is going to eventually catch up with the country in a negative way if things don "t change any time soon in that area

Good point on Hamas being connected by tunnels that go into Egypt and elsewhere. Every time they have a prisoner swap out come Hamas soliders all in uniform fit and healthy, no doubt they've been well conceled in the labrith of tunnels that they have. Who really knows what sort of numbers they have left. With no bargaining chips left, the hostages, they would be foolish to start the war up again.

People were permitted to have their own beliefs and friends were capable of disagreeing with each other while the bonds of their friendship grew stronger. Opinions were like you know what and often times a person's mindset would change after a night spent discussing contentious issues over a cold beer. Males were males, ladies appreciated a man giving up his seat on public transport, children respected the elderly, and life's rules were easy to understand.

No problem mate. For me the peak period of which I speak was the 1970s and 1980s. They were the golden years on wheels. By the 1990s things began to change but a lot of the good stuff from the previous decades remained. The 2000s is when the wheels started wobbling and by the 2010s those wobbly wheels had all deflated. Now, we're in the 2020s and those deflated old wheels have all fallen off.

This is not rhetorical; what is the last persuasive, logical argument presented by a MAGAt in this thread? I don't care if it takes 81 pages to find it, i'd like to see what your golden standard is w.r.t logic.

On prevalence -- did you see the WWE perth crowd booing the US anthem to the ground, or take anything from our last election?

There will always be people who thrive on ignorance, xenophobia and herd mentality; what's happening in the US brings them out of the shadows. Problem for them is that Australia does not have as strong a predisposition to a US-style idiocracy. Our media is largely tame; while they can be selective we have not been subject to a dominant propaganda machine such as Fox News for 10+ years. No states long to do away with vaccines, no scientists claim panadol is the leading factor for Autism. No old white guys trying to repeal immigrant or woman's rights. Religion has always been far removed from state. Nationalism confined mainly to sporting events. Strong public education system, decent healthcare (brilliant compared to US), corporate dollars don't blatantly flood our political sphere.

That said, while Aus and other Western nations evolved separately from the US / modelled themselves off the better aspects, MAGAt types will always be the greatest threat to democracy and it would be naive to write off the risk entirely. The silver lining is that we again get to learn what not to do by watching the guinea pig that is the US of A.

I agree there's far too many MAGAts (still closeted online predominately), but there always has been and forever will be MAGA types (facebook comes to mind). While it is naive to brush it off entirely, we'll never be plagued by them anywhere near as bad as the US because we don't have so such a strong predisposition to them. We've got a strong public education system, none of our states are ruled by white dinosaurs longing for the 50's, voting is mandatory (+ preferential voting), religion is far removed from the state and our media is not undermined by ubiquitous propaganda machines such as Fox News. That said, while Aus evolved separately from the US and modelled itself off the better aspects we also cannot ignore that people will always exist that thrive on ignorance, xenophobia and herd mentality.

I wouldn’t have pegged you as a WWE fan, just goes to show I guess. It is good to see you are a supporter of Australia’s British colonial heritage and the excellent institutions it has left us with. I’ll give you a pass on the racist comment given it is of the acceptable kind. Also, don’t you think the magat moniker is a little childish for someone of your self professed intellectualism?

Final thought, perhaps your post could have been improved by some charts/statistics, which might have addressed the apparent inconsistency posed by the 19 years of the Menzies govt, the 11 years of the Howard govt and the 9 years of conservative rule immediately prior to the current “government”. Or have our strong education systems only evolved under Albo?
