Turbo tied up long term

How do you know this re-signing news isnt rubbish? After all,it’s a story from a journo
(I’m not suggesting it is,but you can’t run with the hares and hunt with the hounds)
Because it will no doubt be announced officially in the near future, whereas the SL gossip couldn't have come to fruition for at least a year because Tom is contracted for 2026.

Any rumour that can't be proven for such a length of time immediately rings bells as bullsh1t for me.

The original rumour wasn’t about signing with SL,it was about sounding out SL clubs on their interest,a tactic used by managers to either up the clubs offer or to shake up the club

Look mate, I'm not interested in engaging in a petty game of semantics with you, have a good weekend.

Hey mate @AndWeDon'tCare, just wondering if you’ve heard anything on Jake’s contract status?

The Chammas article today said he’s been thinking about retirement post his “current deal that ends in 2027” – but his contract only runs until the end of 2026. From what I understand, Manly have offered him a 1-year extension for 2027. Do you reckon Chammas just got his dates wrong, or have you heard anything about whether Jake is leaning towards signing on for 2027 or finishing up after 2026? Appreciate your insight as always. Cheers

The deal being discussed is a one year option into 2027 however, the issue with his concussions is playing some weight in relation to a duty of care to Jake if he was to continue playing, both by the Club and Jake's own advisors.

It should be noted that the NRL don't take to kindly to contract extensions wherein the player has a well known history of medical issues at the time contract negotiations are occurring and then a multi-year deal is agreed too by both the player and the NRL club.

It leads to the later issue of the NRL potentially declining a medical retirement request on the basis of the medical condition being known at the time the offer is made by a NRL Club.

A majority of NRL clubs are now relying on guidance from the NRL about issues that may arise during the course of a subsequent contract, so in our case, the one year extension is in play to limit the possible exposure, in terms of salary cap "loss", should the club be faced with the possibility of a medical retirement in 2027.

It may happen in 2026 and that would be dealt with under the current contract arrangements.
