good news, TT should miss the post season, freshen up and get stuck into improving his stamina thus allowing him to be better positioned in defence next year.

Come on mate.

In the most brutal contact team sport in the world, you want to suspend blokes for every accidental contact to the head?

We'll need squads of 50 to field teams every round!
Yes

I want to see sickening head knocks penalized heavily and bring back the shoulder charge with a minimum 3 week suspension if it goes wrong enough to cause concussion, if the head isn't hit play on

Dont think that will ever happen. A number of studies suggest it has little or no effect on hits to the head. It may stop a cut on your head and stop you from getting cauliflower ears but that's about it

I would think insurance will mean it happens.

It will take one successful legal case against the NRL.

Personally I think it should be compulsory in all junior football, if for nothing else than cuts and wounds.

Robbo is correct Bob, in fact a very strong argument was presented to the effect that "helmets" may actually increase the risk of concussions by reducing or eliminating the natural fear of clashing melons ..... Insurance companies would need to assess the risk of compelling somebody to wear something that may increase their danger ....

Cuts and abrasions (as Capt. Aubrey observed) would be considered the lesser of two weevils ....

So many times throughout this NRL season we saw players get penalised, put on report and even suspended for accidental contact to the head. Yet Ofahengaue with knees to Tom's head didn't even draw so much as a penalty from Cummins or his offsider despite clear video evidence and the fact that Turbo had to leave the field for a HIA which he inevitably failed.

And now this.....

Kangaroos dream over with Tom Trbojevic set to have surgery on cheekbone
Christian Nicolussi

Tom Trbojevic's bid to play in the Kangaroos' October Tests is over with the Manly No.1 to have surgery on Friday for a fractured cheekbone.

The Sea Eagles' superstar suffered the injury during the final-round loss against Brisbane, and it was strangely kept quiet by the club as they were kept busy trying to thrash out a deal with departing coach Trent Barrett.

It was a tough way for Trbojevic's season to end given he was one of the few feel-good stories on the northern beaches. He was even the man of the match in the round 23 and round 24 defeats before the Broncos blowout.

Trbojevic told Fairfax Media on Thursday night the recovery time would be six weeks, which all but ruled him out of Australia's first Test against New Zealand on October 13.

The Kangaroos will also play their highly-anticipated Test against Tonga a week later in Auckland.

Trbojevic told Fairfax Media just last week how he had hoped to push for a return to Mal Meninga's team, especially after making his international debut at the World Cup.

His maiden Origin series was fantastic and only enhanced his chances of locking up a spot on the wing or even the centres.

Initial fears of a fractured eye socket proved unfounded after TV footage showed Trbojevic with a puffy eye on the Suncorp sidelines.

"I've fractured the cheekbone and will have surgery Friday," Trbojevic said. "It's unfortunate but what do you do. At least it was the last game of the year and I wasn't going to miss any more Manly games.

"It's a six-week injury, I'll see how I pull up and go from there, but I'd be pushing it [for the Kangaroos].

"I wasn't selected, but it would have been nice to play in those two Tests.''

While Canterbury had little to celebrate at their awards night on Thursday, the mood would not have been much better over at Manly's own presentation, especially with the bad blood between Barrett and the board.

Assistant John Cartwright is set to be appointed as coach, but it cannot happen until Barrett and his management come to an agreement with the Sea Eagles on a severance package.

Bellamy will be cheering. They changed the rules so Slater couldn’t lead with his feet. Now he can lead with his knees.

The Broncos player slid into the tackle leading with his knees. And his knees made first contact with Turbo’s head.
It’s a penalty, probable sin bin, and a suspension.

The refs are an incompetent joke all round.
