If anyone from The Kennel is reading these pages ... don't say we didn't tell you he was a $hit coach because we did, numerous times.

In fairness to Trent Barrett, while coaching may not be for him he does have a very good eye for spotting rugby league talent. I've always said he would make a much better talent scout than he would a coach.

He can spot talent. He just can't coach it.

Alan Thomson wasn’t much better at 41% whereas Peter Sharp had 47%, including Northern Eagles, however, his last year at Manly was a shocker, with 17%.

Trent will definitely get a gig as an Assistant Coach somewhere, as he is proven in this role with his attack strategies, and he quite innovative apparently and we saw glimpses of this at Manly. He just doesn’t need to focus on defence, as clearly he has no bloody idea, and nor does he know how to motivate people.

However, I wouldn’t mind him back at Manly to help the attack, as long as he brings his garden furniture with him. 😀😀
It's not the attack we need help with , it's the defence. What's cement Gillespie doing these days ?

Yea, right.

Let the following players leave Manly as they were not talented.

Clint Gutherson
Peta Hiku
Tom Wright
Jackson Hastings
Niko Hynes

To name but a few

He signed Lewis Brown and Nate Myles - complete failures

Only thing Barrett has an eye for is flexing in the mirror.

Gutho was a mistake, that I admit. Apparently Tooves had him earmarked for DCE's long term halves partner. Barrett thought otherwise.

Hiku was neither here nor there. A solid centre with no pace. Hmmmmm don't some here have a go at Parker for being that?

Wright was untested, but Barrett the coach wasn't up to the task. Went back to union and TBH I've barely heard a thing about him since.

Hastings ... yeah Barrett screwed up there. He never gave Jackson a fair go IMO.

Hynes ... was that anything to do with Barrett??

His recruitment is very directionless though imo.

Plus there's fair few good players we let go under baz. He's good at luring players from Penrith though.

Were all of these under Barrett's watch?
Gutho was a complete mistake - I mean he's even a Northern Beaches boy right?
Cromer I think

He has a real talent for spotting schooners and hair products.

The absolute worst was Craig Hodges coached 10 games for 10 losses. 2017 and 2019 interim coach Titans
Have to disagree there Mick. Hodges was initially promised the head coach gig. At the last moment they gave it to Garth Brennan. A lot of politics and backstabbing went on.
Then when they eventually realised Brennan was a dud, they dumped all the shiit on Hodges. He wasn’t allowed to sack players (which he definitely wanted too), and wasn’t allowed to go after other players (again which he wanted too). There was a tonne of shiit with the sponsors as well.
I’ve known Hodges for a long time. I’m not saying we’re best buds, but he got stitched up. He couldn’t leave because he’d be out of pocket, and he was going thru a messy divorce at the time.
I think Hodges is a better man manager than coach. He had some great years when he was Broncos 20’s coach, we’re he was able to nurture up and coming stars. But ultimately had to quit because of his falling out with Bennett.

Yes to all. Hynes was in Manly’s U20 side in 2015. Not good enuf according to Twent to be signed in 2016.

Tom Wright has only played test rugby for Australia. So, yea unsighted. LOL.
I still remember Wright playing one of his few games against the Dragons and the footwork to stand up several players and score was outstanding.

Please nobody tell me Barrett is a good attack coach. As soon as he left Penrith, their attack improved out of sight and they won the GF.

I didn't know that Nicho Hynes was in the Manly system at one stage - what a **** up on our end
Or Twent's by the sound of it

I thought we'd banned Nate Myles from ever being mentioned.

No for any coach over 100 games.
Ron Hilditch 109 games at 29.4% win
Trent Barrett 107 games at 31.8% win
Tom Raudonikis 116 games at 33.6% win.
You’ve got factor in the circumstances. Hilditch and Tommy had wooden spoon rosters. Baz had Turbo, DCE, Burton, Addo-Carr and on and on and on.

Barrett to me is just SOOOOO soft. I don't know how he has been at the Dogs, but to me he just came out with excuse after excuse when he was our coach......and if you keep giving your players an out....they will take out (at least the weak ones).
100%.

It was embarrassing how positive he tried to be in each press conference. Talking about how they played well enough to win. You only play well enough to win when you win!

The way he celebrated when they beat Cronulla last year and the Roosters this year, was ridiculous. One win in 7 starts can’t be your grand final. You’ve gotta keep a lid on things. Both occasions he celebrated on the side lines like it was the Super Bowl and the following week they were back to being a basket case.
