What’s really killing our 2025 season?

It is far more than 1 problem and this is why this topic will go around in many circles, but same time makes it interesting, but for what it's worth the responsability is from in a big way the players - to coaching (including staff) - to injuries - to maybe a tad of "inhouse" friction/divisions since the DCE "sudden" announcement.
When Demetriou was at Souths
Souths were underachieving
There was division amongst players
Latrell was out of control
South were badly underperforming and Demetriou Lost his Job

Now that The Great Bennett is back
Souths are over achieving
The players are united
Latrell is under control
Their Inspirational captain Murray has been out all season , Their Key play maker Walker out for extended period as well as other first graders in souths heavy season injury list
He has players playing above their weight and winning over their high profile opponents

Why are Great coaches Great ?
Because Great coaches override Excuses and Overachieve

The cow makes the freshest milk and this man coaches it to give it to him every day. Moral of the story ...... milk matters.
Thank you very much for that wonderful pic of Honey the Milking Cow
Because it becomes a very significant topic of my reply .....
and that is
Under Seibold Manly will never become the Land of Premiership Winning Milk and Honey

What Killed the Dogs Seasons ?
The People responsible for running their club off the field . Like their Mediocre Board Members
The People responsible for running their team on the field Like their Mediocre Head coach Trent Barrett

Now that these Mediocre people are now gone
the Bulldogs Club has Gone back to Greatness

The moral of the story
Is Obvious

Great pic of the Monkey feathered and thank you for posting an other significant moral of the story post ....

The Mediocre Monkeys running our club on and off the field are making a Mockery out of our
Legendary club Benchmark Premiership Winning High Standards

If your Matt John’s and Manly do let DCE go in June, do you throw Jack Arthur’s in at half and go and buy the best available prop for the rest of the season? The Rooster 5/8 at the moment is a clone of Arthur’s and defends well and plays his role in the team without being the best player on the park

You mean Jake Arthur? If so, yes you could, but I would throw Walsh in there.

If that was to happen yes I'd go internal the rest of the season (most likely Arthur, possibly Walsh).

That said I wouldn't just grab whatever the best prop available is.

We need to find the right forward and right opportunity.

Our season has been more impacted by our lack of go forward and ineptitude around the ruck. This has imo had a more profound impact!!! than anything DCE is or not doing. If we win the ruck DCE will still do his thing. This is what is really killing our season in combination with the narrative the media has been pushing ( DCE bombshell decision, etc etc. ) which is just about keeping punters focused on them!! despite what the real truth or reality is….

If we had go forward and were dominant in the ruck we would be winning games it is simple as that!
I love these threads where you ask a question which prompts me to click but then you proceeed to give your opinion as if there was no question.

Makes life easy. You are right, and nothing for me to add.

Tonight convinced me that this team is not failing due to a lack of connection or a lack of effort… they are possibly a rung below the contenders but that was a performance that was all heart and I will be more than happy if I see that each week…

This is what's killing us this year
Turbo - at 50%
Garrick - a winger not a centre and no other club would have him there.
Brooks - Tigers reject and he's no better here.
DCE - a checked out captain who couldn't care less about the place
Paseka- perpetual injury liability
No #9 - Simpkins Tiger reject, Croker - lame duck Raiders reject
Aloiai- Tigers reject, 1 good game then 5 sh*t then injured.
Lodge- overweight unfit reject from everywhere including us but we desperately take him back
Waddell - see Lodge
Burbo - a decent fill in reserve grader for injured 1st graders
Jake T- a now over paid light of other days. Now a very average plodder.
Jazz T- Warriors reject.
Sipley- a deadset reserve grade Super league standard.
N Brown - Parra reject say no more.
Chee Kam - everywhere reject including us but we desperately take him back.

Our only decent players.
Bullemore- the only shining light this year yet that Grimace coach is under utilising him.
Saab - under used , no ball an average 1st grader.
Koula - trying too much because of the lack of others but would be great in a quality club.
Hoppa Jr- future quality but still very green.
Olakau'atu- a marquee and can turn a game single handedly but jeez he was kicking stones last night.
TKO - going ok but at the end of his career.

The Coaching.
Seibold - has no proven track record and its showing. We miss the 8 he needs to go. Has nogame plans, no how to motivate and lacks any command or presence.
The rest , whoever is the defense coach needs to go it's abysmal.
Attack which was ok 1st couple rounds is now completely clueless, needs to go.
The Owners
A decade of complete failure as a club on and off the field ,which was always looked at as a top tier club. Now we're a joke, a laughing stock , a needle heading towards zero.
Sell up and Fu*k off Penn.

Dont get me wrong I am not disagreeing with your post, its truthful and fairly accurate in my view, especially the bottom line.

But look at the Storms line up and all the reject players they have like Eli Katoa, Xavier Coastes, Shawn Blore, Nick Meaney and Josh King just to name a few who come to mind.

Every club needs those players to make up their squads.

The Sipleys of the NRL aren't deciding ladder positions and finals spots, every club has 5 or more similar players. The Storm have Mogan Harper???

What makes the difference is players putting in 100% of their ability and the coach ensuring that happens. When it does you have your Eli Katoa (does anyone remember the 50% of his career at the Warriors) or Josh Kings (same % at the Knights) success stories propel the club.

While ever the owners of our club settle for 2nd rate coaches success will evade us. This applies to every NRL team. Benji and Adam O'Brien are the chance of winning an NRL premiership as me.

They must chase Cleary, Bennett, Robinson or Bellamy. Any thing else is just a guess.

How sweet would it be to wake up tomorrow morning and read Manly had pulled off the biggest signing in years with Ivan Cleary/Robbo (you get the idea) set to join the club in 2026. Bit like when The Dogs took Des after 2011.

Pipedream = most likely.

Does it make sense - you decide, its just my opinion.

PS Id take Craig Fitzgibbon in heart beat.

Xavier Coates, Meaney, Kotoa arent rejects....they can easily get gigs at other clubs.
We have a bulk of players whose only next option is Super League. Big difference.

In the early 1990s, we had Bozo give Menzies,Gartner,Kosef all Manly juniors a chance to develop...
In the early 2000s we had Des give Watmough, King, Stewart bros, Stephenson, Matai a chance to develop.

100% agree that there is no go forward, against the Eels numerous times Manly players were standing still when receiving the ball from the ruck. If Manly had 2 decent sized props getting the play forward, it will free up the backs to do their job and score more tries. Plus need Jurbo back asap for better defence than what was dished up against the Eels.
