If the rule is cap relief for a rep game injury that keeps a player out for 12 games...and Foran comes back before the 12 games are up, then the headline should be:

After all - in the same article....

Canberra missed out when Jordan Rapana returned to the field just short of the 12-match cut-off.

Not sounding very 'Manly' with all the complaining, bulldogs.

If a player is hurt in a representative fixture then the compensation should start immediately.

So what if the player only misses one game?Hardly setting the team back and the club basically gets money for nothing.It also opens up the chance to manipulate the situation

Because AFB and JakeT are only going to miss a couple of games,Foran will miss the whole season.Theres been plenty of” bitching like little girls”on here about similar issues so not sure you should be too critical of the Dogs

It stinks regardless of which club it might happen to. Just another example of the convoluted and arbitrary way that the NRL do their business with the product they depend upon.

The game is being run by bankers and corporate grubs whose only real concern is maximising the dollar and increasing their salaries.They are short sighted and their fiscal policy above all else approach must change.

I admire the guys courage in actually wanting to continue playing given what he has gone through since leaving Manly. But there has to come a point where his physical and emotional well being needs to be the first consideration.

The sad thing is that when he was a Sea Eagle, most of us predicted that if he didn't change the way he played the game (little to no self preservation) then his body would break down like it continues to. Its sad because evidence suggests we were right.....he's barely getting through more than 1 or 2 games at a time without ending up sidelined with a major injury.

In a lot of ways as far as Manly is concerned.....the blessing is that he's no longer our problem.

Fine if they were not carrying injuries that needed them needled up to play for their country. Club comes first.

Clubs now pay their players a lot of money and offer longer contracts. The Clubs therefore deserve loyally and should be prioritized. I would understand if it were a test cap at stake but Jake & AFB are established internationals with nothing to prove and should have had their surgery weeks earlier to ensure they were ready for round 1. IMO DCE's end of season games suffered because was still carrying injury after returning too early for origin. These guys play a lot of footy and put their bodies through hell so the other factor is focusing on longevity as chronic injuries that are not allowed to heal properly can end careers prematurely.

Food for thought.....

The argument that players should be putting their club first since its the club that in most cases has LOTS of money invested in them is exactly what killed off State of Origin in the AFL, the only legitimate representative arena at the top level in Aussie rules.

Origin in the AFL went the same way as City vs Country. Pretty much exactly the same way. More and more the clubs were loath to allow their players, their investments, to play in a game that went nowhere towards the ultimate goal of winning a premiership. The clubs didn't want their best players to be out for the rest of the season because they got injured in what they considered a nothing game. Thus, in the end Origin in the AFL was killed off and the only representative honours they have left are the All Australian team, who usually play no one - its basically a merit side, and maybe selection in that convoluted International Rules crap whenever it gets played.

The balance between club and representative football is very hard to find. But do we want Origin and test football in rugby league to go the way of City vs Country....the same way as AFL Origin simply because the clubs don't benefit from it and can often be the ones to lose big if their players such as in this case Kieran Foran, get a major injury??

It is a situation that will have Bulldogs fans barking mad come next week.
Because two and a half months after Kieran Foran went down with a serious shoulder injury while playing Test football for New Zealand, Canterbury is finally expected to get a verdict from the NRL next week on how much money they will have taken off their salary cap for this season.

And it is likely to leave the club and their supporters feeling severely short-changed, especially when they look at how recent events have unfolded for South Sydney.
