Why Manly will win the comp in 2018

01. Tom Trbojevic
02. Jorge Taufua
03. Brian Kelly
04. Dylan Walker
05. Akuila Uate
06. Blake Green
07. Daly Cherry-Evans

+ Matt Wright may not be the ultimate starter every week, but he's most certainly above average when it comes to depth replacement, and will be fighting it out with Parker if and when an injury hits us.

+ Also, people forget what Kelly's play was like when Taufua was healthy. The League world including us was absolutely blown away. Taufua's qualities did the kid wonders.

Hopefully we land Thompson. Statistically, he was one of the best backrowers in the league last season, and add him to Sironen and Jake, and jeez that backrow is looking good.

I challenge you to look at the highlights of a game when Taufua was playing along side Kelly
See if you can count how many miss tackles from Kelly led to tries .

Not with Matt Wright and Kelly we won't. Top 8 sure
Wright won't play first grade, surely not. He's brilliant fullback cover, although his value as centre/wing depth is still good. Kelly may be fine with another off season in him, although if he shows the wobbles again i'd just put Parker straight into the side (might even prefer him to start), he's reliable and a great defender. Really happy we've re-signed Taufua

Same as last year, although if taufua can stay on the field it'll be an improvement on last year, i'm very happy with this side all round (still need a player like (or) thompson)

I think Tom Wright will crack our backline by year's end, if for no other reason than injury cover.

It'll be good to see how he goes in first grade. As you mentioned he'd likely only get his chance from injuries although if he takes it I think we definately still have one position in our backline up for grabs (kelly's centre). If he makes that position his own from being depth then i'd be more than happy, although still worry he isn't ready or anywhere near consistent enough. Time will tell, hopefully he gets a chance soon

I don't really understand your point.......................are these highlights to prove how sh** Kelly is?

Point proven!

.......this is the same lot that proved they really weren't top class last year......how can you be happy with this side!!

Replace Kelly & Green with decent players and it would be very exciting!

Defencively maybe, although we were neck and neck with the storm for scoring the most points. Backline is not the issue. Kelly still can improve, and i'm perfectly happy with parker replacing him if he's not up to it. Now, it's just about improving the defence which was too bipolar in 2017, sometimes it seemed unbreakable, other times it seemed we didn't care

Tom Trbo, Taufua, Walker, Uate, DCE top five backs at the club (not in order), that's up there

Kelly i'm not sold on (not sold against either), and Green is the best we can do for now, he's good, gets the job done and takes pressure off chez. Not a word beater, although i think we have enough attacking flair, and as i said he's still good, just not noticeably dominant as seen with the top halves.

Even Morgan doesn't do much when he has JT with him, one half just has to do a job, dce is the instinctive half

My point is missing one on one tackles you cant blame no one but your self . It does not matter who plays along side you.

Just can't agree with you mate on Kelly. Agree to disagree hey 🙂 Do you remember the acid everyone was sending Matai maybe his 1st THREE years defensively? How did he end up? I just think Kelly is further along in his progression than Matai was in those early years.

Kids special, but that's just me.

Sorry brother but we both see different things 🙂
Who is to say that Kelly will not improve this year ?
I hope he does . If not we do have other options

Maybe I can't count properly, but I only noticed 1 missed tackle that led to try from Kelly. Walker let one in and turbo should have grounded one in the in goal. Sloppy defence all round..highlights are the pure strength of tafua. He was surely missed most of the season. Just want Kelly to hit the gym this off-season. Bulk up and get some tats..

If Kelly gets an early shot he needs some early ball....his strength is his footwork hands down....the defence - some poor misses back peddling, but again had plenty to do with opposition momentum through the ruck.

It is the job of the team, in particular the so-called playmakers, to manoeuvre to get some space for the attacking weapons we have out wide.

As for Kelly, and Winterstein for that matter, some critics here don't allow for natural improvement over time. I certainly expect Kelly to be better in 2018. Winterstein is much older than Kelly but hasn't much more first grade experience, and I expect him to be better as well.

Also AFB, Perrett, and Siro. All should be better players next year.

The other thing sometimes forgotten by our resident experts is that the actual team improves. That is, the way the players blend as a team.

I expect an improved Manly team this year, and I wouldn't be surprised if that is enough to propel us to top 4. Injuries and luck (the draw!!) always play a role, but signs are all positive from Manly at this stage.

I just want one more prop!!

Having watched both Kelly and Parker, I consider Kelly has stronger attributes as a centre. Parker is slow and will make a fine forward, but what I've seen of him is safe and competent but not match winning. Kelly has that X factor you need in the backline. Sure he went off the boil late in the season but he came back with a bang. An off season will see this kid blossom

green did a fine job. dce needs to step up but he's just not good enough anymore. kid used to be a gun.. end of year he was trash and the main reason we lost. warriors game he didn't do a thing till the 60 minute. just happy for green to run the show. We should of smoked them and the dogs yet.... Kelly o's a big problem too hoppa might be an upgrade he's pretty average too now but could come good

DCE not good enough? I must be watching the wrong game. Without DCE we would have still been 13th

Everyone at the dogs were average, when he plays for Tonga he looks good, for the dogs though he was slow and restricted by their gameplan.

Agree on Green, and disagree on chez.

A question based on the original question @SeaEagleRock8 !!

Do you know something we all don’t know, that we are the next “ Fairytale “??

Because all I’ve seen for 5 years is Fairytales and without one I think we are screwed!

Left centre is not a strong field currently in the NRL. Kelly would probably be middle of the pack - not rep standard by any stretch but not the worst getting around when you consider it's his rookie year.
