The article above doesn't say much but Beaver is right about the half who gets the gig having to be the controller of the play.

Having Blake Green erased the memories somewhat of the prior year where the opposition targeted DCE, repeat sets were rarer than a half full house at a Sydney NRL stadium, and quite often the fifth tackle play ended up with Lewis Brown, who despite trying his best, shouldn't have been put in that position.

If Hastings is the only "specialist five-eighth" in the senior squad then he has to be considered first in line you would think.

I must say I’d rather Carney than Hodkinson.
Carney will have a lot to prove , and let’s face it he’s been dumb but unlike the Donkeys prize signing, he hasn’t been jailed.
I think he avoided jail, thanks to anomalies of the US criminal system where money seems to be able to help buy you a better deal.

Meanwhile it's wonderful to see he is being paraded on the NRL home page with a 5 minute front page feature puff piece of an interview so we can all get to know the Bronc's likeable new boy.

I am well aware rugby league likes to think of itself as the game that offers second chances but I'm nevertheless still shocked to see the game's official site unconditionally promoting this bloke, after what he did.

666. If the beast is what we want, we can look no further than this man.

Manly Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett says Lachlan Croker ready to partner Daly Cherry-Evans

Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans was once an unheralded rookie looking to establish himself alongside a superstar halves partner, and Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett is confident young-gun Lachlan Croker can do the same this season.

Croker, 21, is tipped to start the season in the No.6 jumper as uncertainty around the club's salary cap continues to complicate plans to replace departed five-eighth Blake Green.

The Sea Eagles were on Monday granted a third extension to respond to an NRL breach notice, first issued in December, for alleged salary cap breaches.

The club had been linked to both Mitchell Pearce and Trent Hodkinson, who have since signed elsewhere. Barrett said recruitment efforts had been severely hamstrung as uncertainty around the cap continued.

Not sure who the 28 players we already have on our list, but I think Anderson and Funa were on the apprenticeship level (or whatever they call it). Those two need to be in the 30.

Ah someone with a theological background. Are you also going to tell us it was the numerical number for one Nero.

Sorry to disappoint, but no theological leanings whatsoever, just a mind full of a lot of disconnected and mostly useless factoids .... of which papyrus 115 is one.

One Nero??

Its suggested fairly strongly that numbers were often used to hide true meanings by early Christians, who had to hide their identity to avoid persecution especially in Rome. According to many theological specialists, early Christians saw the end of the World within their life time, and John of Patmos ( a small island in the Aegean) who wrote the Revelation of John was suggesting that reference to the Beast and the final days, was actually referring to Nero, who was one of the worst persecutors of the early Christian believers. John of Patmos is a shadowy figure and some have suggested he is John the disciple in his older years
