Sloan was contesting the bomb and then was coming back down to ground.What they’re meant to do is either contest the bomb, or wait until they hit the ground then try and hold them up.
Why shouldn’t a perfect bomb be rewarded with a penalty try, if the catcher is taken illegally?
He couldn't suddenly turn limp or liquid or vanish.
The problem is the NRL rule makers made any semblance of a tackle in the air illegal.
But there was no need for this as the rules had always said a dangerous tackle is a penalty.
And there was nothing dangerous about what Sloan did yesterday.
The NRL pursues black and white rules becuase it can't handle a referee using their own judgement.
