It is a common strategy for clubs to muddy the waters when a marquee type is about to sign, not necessarily in the realistic expectation of signing him but just to bump up his contract as much as possible so your rival club doesn't get a free kick.

I am not going to be too pearced off if he doesnt sign with us. It could work out well for us, but equally it could also be a complete disaster. What we have for 2018 (Squad) is already pretty solid, and what we have coming through (developing our younger players) could be pretty special as well. Pearce is an excellent player on his day, but I worry about what negativity he might bring into a developing team culture, and how much his package eats into what appears to be a skinny cap. When you look at his options Knights have everything he wants. Main playmaker and 7 jersey, 1mil plus deal.

So do we. Daly Cherry-Evans + Trbos, taupau, Walker, Uate, Koroisau, Sironen and more. He'll get the number 7 jersey (once again dce plays like a 5/8 so the number on his back really means jack ****). And a backended deal + TPA's would bring his contract to around that much at Manly, where more success is to be had, and where he can remain in sydney (which appears as a major requirement for him)

We have added 5 players to the squad, from 25 - 30 and minimum wage has increased - there goes close to 1M of the 2M cap increase

We have lost Green, Stewart, Matai, Myles and BJ but replacements are not free so maybe gain a few hundred K.

We have upgraded contracts of AFB, Winterstein and now pay full price (not necessarily the previous price) for Uate and Sirro So there is a few hundred K or more.

Some players have increases in line with cap rises (surely DCE is one) so a few hundred K - half a million lost there

So I see us with max $1.2M min 700K up our sleeve.

reports were Jake upgrade 250K to 700K and Tom 150K - 900K (Tom was coming off a 20's contract).

Matai 500K and Stewart 900K = 50K difference

If he wants his revenge on the Roosters then it's best for Pearce to sign with us, Robinson knows this and is exactly why he didn't want him signing with us.

If he wants to go after the money then Knights would be his preferred team.
