Id love to see him do majority of his work developing our juniors... Like toyota cup, SG ball aswell as putting the polish on our current 1st graders... Imagine the next crop of manly juniors coming through that have been developed by Joey Johns + our strong club culture

As long as he doesnt have a negative influence on the culture of the team. It wasnt so long ago that there were complaints on here about how John's had a negative impact by encouraging some of our players into binge drinking sessions. Hate to think he might bring the party boy/ Newcastle drug culture to the club.

As soon as I heard this, I thought "hell yeah". Give the man a pen.

It will deprive other clubs, that have an absolutely crap no 7 (I wonder who that might be ?) of hiring him as a consultant.

As a player, he was the most influential player I have ever seen. Newcastle still haven't recovered from his retirement.

I'd love to see him coaching DCE and Foz on their kicking games.

Can't see a single negative to his appointment. He is about the only bloke on Ch Nein that ever has anything positive to say about us.

He's an immortal. Therefore he's qualified to be on our coaching staff. Interview not required.

I was just thinking... IF we were to put joey on as an assistant.. He'd be more of a halves coach wouldnt he?

And if so wouldnt that leave us short 1 tactical assistant?

Thoughts...?

Johns was pretty much the coach of Newcastle during his career on the field.

His influence was across the board and involved tactics as much as skills.

Obviously his forte is halves, but he'd be just as capable in marrying that up with the tactics and how the 13 on the field plays under Toovey's direction.

When talking Johns its not JUST a specialist for the halves, this guy spent his career telling fowards who to aim at & showed outside backs how to get depth & run angles. Has the FULL attacking credentials & tackled as well as most backrowers, cracked Birds ribs with a beauty at Shark Park.....Very, very happy...if it becomes reality.

This would be a great coup for the club. As someone said earlier, we are paying DCE and Foran large salaries now, so we need them to consistently be match winners for us. They have the talent to do that, and with Toovey and Johns coaching them, they will have great help and direction.

Hope it's true. Only downside is he might be distracted with his other career.

Perhaps he's hedging his bets if channel nine sheds its workforce ?

Slow news day i doubt if it's for the Assistant Coaching role, probably just an increased presence or exclusivity agreement.

Might also be a case of increasing his workload during the off season to help put in place better attacking structures. Good to see Tooves is addressing our major issue that flows into our defence not the other way around.

Also tightening up our mid sections with muscle not fat and a 2-3% weight reduction per player(well most) to increase our sharpness.

Muscle weighs more than fat so the above in some ways sounds contradictory but you can get a better balance in some players----to be honest with some players it's more about dropping a waist size than actual playing weight.

Good points.

Also a non-drinking with the players clause in his contract perhaps? ;)

Stick to technical subjects mate because your fitness trainer knowledge is ****. Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat.

Muscle is more dense than fat. If you place a litre by volume of muscle on a scale beside a litre of fat by volume on a scale, the muscle will weigh more.

It makes no sense to say muscle weighs more than fat. A kilo of each is the same.

Muscle does have more density than fat so by volume a kilo of muscle takes up less space than a kilo of fat.

Maybe you just want a few to drop a few kilos in fat around the midrift, without any change to muscle mass already present?

I thought commenting in a sport forum people would know what i'm on about, muscle is more dense than fat this is why you can drop waist size and actually put on weight.

"Maybe you just want a few to drop a few kilos in fat around the midrift, without any change to muscle mass already present?" This will lower weight and is more inline with what i'm thinking but people tend to overstate the muscle mass present under all that fat in the midrift.
