Best Coaches Of All Time

Was going to post this in the Des thread but I am interested to hear the thoughts of others on this

It makes me sick to write this but...

It shows what a great coach Bellamy is (salary cap aside...). I can not think of many coaches in sport world wide who have had sustained success with a number of "different" teams. I mean there is Fergie with Man United, maybe Phil Jackson in basketball (all without a salary cap) - I am sure there are a heap of others I am missing in NHL etc

If he manages to win a title without Cam Smith in the team he has claims to be one of the best coaches in any sport?

Look at their player list , only the Roosters can match that.

I agree , a great coach, but boy oh boy he’s had the money , the system and a bunch of superstars to do it with.

Yeah he's obviously a good coach, but he's had a few good players to work with too.
Here's the list of their rep players since Melbourne started in 2028.
I'd be surprised if any other club can match that list over this period. Manly certainly can't!

He is good and good coaches bring out the best of their players .
Most of their players like Munster and Cam Smith and Slater etc were unheard of before they became Premiership winning Heroes under Bellamy's Guidance

Get coaches like the Spoon quality into that Melbourne System and see if they get the Same results as Brilliant Bellamy

Many were young players who began in NRL with Melbourne but that doesn't mean they were unheard of.
eg Munster was Q Cup player of the year when they signed him. They sign up star junior talent in bulk and are usually good enough to retain the cream of the crop.

All coaches have the opportunity to sign young up and commers
But not All coaches have the same affect as Bellamy

You should be aware they pretty much pick from the cream of the Queensland Cup, so whilst it’s easy to say “ it’s all due to Bellamy “ there are many many factors at play.

Owned and funded largely by News Ltd and the richest caravan maker in Australia ( Jayco who command 50% of the market ). Gerry Ryan isn’t far behind Nick Politis as far as wealth goes.

Their system , and facilities are not matched by any other team.

I’d suggest to you that most coaches , if they went there ( and as long as they stuck with the system ) would succeed.

Notwithstanding , Bellyache is a unique individual and the demands he makes on his players is extreme.

However ( and here’s my point ), how did he go as NSW coach , away from the Storm system when he coached the NSW Blues?

You’ll all know that answer.

Bellamy is a great coach.

But take him out and put him say at Manly and he’d be like a fish out of water and I doubt he’d make that much difference to our side.

Yeah he is probably the best I remember.

Just shy of 70% win strike rate is ultra impressive.

But its the players that have gone from the scrap heap to being regular first graders that impresses me most. Without digging through records just look at the current team compare the Storm version of these players to their past efforts for their previous clubs,

Eli Katoa (several seasons at Warriors)
Shawn Blore (several seasons at Tigers)
Josh King (a long time Knight)
Jahrome Hughes (Cowboys, Titans and about 3rd string fullback at Storm now in the best 3 halves in NRL)

The ability to get all 17 players to do their job to the best of their ability 99% of the time.

If I could take any coach and place him at Brookvale it would be Bellamy.

Bellamy for sheer consistency and tenacity with a boot load of trophies to show for it! As well as coaching in one of toughest and competitive competitions in the world. If only he coached Manly.
