I hope Seibold can somehow turn things around and make me eat humble pie
Sometimes it’s not the coach in professional teams it can come down to the whole organisation
For example I follow Everton in the premier league ever since Moshiri who is same position as Penn
they have had 7 managers and 2 caretakers in 7 years and are down the bottom of the ladder year after year
My point is we can’t keep blaming the coach it starts at the top if the top ain’t good the rest won’t be
We have Mestrov and Seibold in for under a year Manly most likely go through more pain. If theses 2 can’t get it right . Some roster changes need to happen and decisions it’s not a quick fix here it’s going to take time with some short fixes but they need to be given a chance to get there

I strongly disagree with this
and it has been proven by great coaches who bring out the best in players and revive players careers
Yes and No
Bellamy couldn’t get the best out of a nsw team
Webster getting the best out of warriors
Great teams can make a coach poor teams can cost a coach his job

This is not the case
For Example
At his Peak and at the Peak of our clubs boardroom brawling that made league headlines every week
Des Hasler was not only capable of flying under the Radar but was also capable of getting his team to fly above all the other teams and win a Premiership

The fact is Bellamy has the runs on the board
He has made ordinary players play above their weight and has won premierships
One NSW series does not define Bellamy
What defines Bellamy is the consistency in what he is known to do best and that is to bring out the best in his players and his teams

My favourite Reality quote
Losers Deliver Excuses
Winners Deliver Results

One NSW series does not define Bellamy
He coached 3 series for only winning 2 games from 9
Coached 3 nsw country games for 1 win
Not doubt Bellamy is a great coach when his is an organisation that is doing every thing right. ( questionable cheating the cap introducing wrestling moves into the nrl. )
Agree though he has transformed average players into a team and played well , not all players leave Melbourne better players though

You can a lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink
You can lead a player to the gym or the field but if he doesn’t want to push him self to get ripped and if he doesn’t eat right it’s not going to happen , How is that a 100% on the coach partly but not 100%
Jamie Lyon was never ripped and was one of the best players around and still would be if playing today

you can lead a horse to water but a pencil must be lead.

The game has changed, but you are right about the elite players. I was at a good few Raiders training sessions around 1990, and saw first hand how Meninga and Belcher and Stuart etc trained, not like the rank and players.

I agree with many of your points.

But...

There are things that do come down to the coaching staff. A few examples are attacking shape, team selections, defensive structures, fitness programs, recruitment and retention, etc. Let's not forget that Seibold was in control at Brisbane during the darkest time in their history. I never thought I'd see a day where the Broncos came last other than them being caught out cheating the salary cap.

Brisbane are such a huge club with unlimited wealth.

I wasn't thrilled when Spoony was appointed coach at Manly, and nothing has happened this season to change my gloomy disposition. If anything, my outlook is even worse now.

Nothing would please me more than Spoonman becoming the Premiershipman.

Not too sure how much influence or responsibility Flanaghan has in the whole matter also .
Maybe he has clocked off to a large degree and Siebold not taking up the slack or offering the required input to compensate .
Had the impression that Siebold was somehow going to present or had a more up to date or new ideas type coaching approach or credentials .
just can not see the reasoning however of wasting so many plays on one of runs especially when Manly does have some serious strike out wide and even Parker is capable of running good lines .
At least something is more likely to happen out wider or wider of the ruck as opposed to very limited prospects in the middle . Need some necessary go forward or when it is warranted but to dominate some possession plays , just a lost cause when all is said and done , Even assisting in building some serious pressure quite limited in the main .
Garrick obviously does not have all of Turbo 's all round ability but has been able to manage some good line breaks from the back in quite a few games this season also , when the ball is spread a bit .
Have to say again that i only watch very occasionally and even then on a relatively brief basis , other N R L games but even sides below Manly at present like the Titans and Dolphins tend to play a much better open attacking game , not to mention the sides ahead of Manly and not to take into account the additional entertainment value as well .
Shu 's indifferent form is probably not helping matters in attack , scrambling defence quite reasonable at times , positional defence another matter .
Jury still out on the coaching front , of course hope that Siebold and whoever his assistants are going forward will be able to get much more right then not . or certainly better then what has been dished up for a good part of this season .

Then we crashed a burned
But agree with that

Do you have to keep putting up pics of our Golden period Bozo, it's just depressing looking at the champion team we had back in 2008 to the team we have now..
Come on , just have to sometimes have some perspective time .
Or actually would not mind a more so History Repeating Itself scenario in relation to many of Manly 's past glories

I swear you are sounding more and more like Bozo al..."perspective time"...one of Bozos favourite sayings..mmm..

Got to give him until end of next season minimum to see what sort of roster he builds
Lodge was a good decision
Brooks could be a masterstroke
He has benched Harper and I think has picked the best players at his disposal for the majority of the year. The main exception being Kelma over Fainu which may have reasons behind it
hope he picks Fainu this week

Yeah! but we had manase remember!!
We didn’t have Manase. We had him on a small contract hoping he would get off and get back to footy. That should never have stopped us from looking at another specialised dummy half for the interim at least. That was a stupid and unnecessary gamble, IMO.
