Coach Seibold thoughts so far.... so good

I’m not suggesting Seibold should be removed now,he deserves to at least see out the season and the payout figure is different if they do it now rather than seasons end.But the team has not improved in his 3 years.Still the same issues.
I think some posters want him until 2030 before he gets graded.
I disagree a little here. Three years and it's 'your' team. I don't necessarily think he could have landed a big fish, primarily because they probably wouldn't choose to sign at Manly...but history shows that clubs turn over rosters when they want to (looks at Ryles this year and Ciraldo in the last three). Seibs has chosen to stick with a lot of what he already had, believing that it's good enough to get the job done.

I get that people will argue that a number of players are under contract and cannot be moved, but we've seen time and time again what the tap on the shoulder does. Players get shopped all the time and Seibs has elected not to do this. I'm not even suggesting this is the wrong move from him, just pointing out that after three seasons, you've essentially got to own what you've got. Every coach arrives with a previous coach's leftovers and given a club must spend 95% of their cap, paired with the NRL no longer allowing heavily back-ended/deferred contracts, walk into essentially the same predicament.

What we have at Manly is a strategic move by Seibs to go all out for a premiership now, rather than rebuild like say Ryles is doing at Parramatta. Right or wrong? I don't know...but he's made a choice to stick with the core group and put some bargain forwards together, rather than tear the place up and start again. For this reason, after three years, it's partly on him whether he has the cattle or not.

Just my 2 cents worth.
+1. Seibold knew what what he was signing up for. Why do some people think he needs to make his own team up before being assessed? This was not a team that was coming last, so why does it seem like his conditions are on parallel with coaching a team coming last.

For mine, our last two wins over the Tigers and Souths are going to prove like NSW's "almost" comeback in Game 2 of Origin......

It will flatter to deceive.

Our next month is Melbourne (A), Dogs (A), Chooks (H) and Raiders (A). We'll be lucky to come out with a win over maybe the Chooks. Maybe.

The next month will will be telling for our season. If we come out of it 0-4 or even 1-3, forget about even making the top 8, let alone challenging for a Premiership.

This discussion has come up a few times on Silvertails and I tend to think a bigger issue than Siebs coaching ability are injuries to Tom and therefore his subsequent lack of peak form. More recently, Daly’s departure has impacted results. I also think a lack of depth in the forwards has hurt with injuries to Paseka and Aloiai. I guess I am suggesting that there’s many reasons for our middle of road standing in the NRL under Seibs; whether he can coach or not is up for debate but I’m pretty certain in my own mind that there are issues beyond that and that alone.

Fair enough people are saying that Seibs hasn't got the squad he wanted, but do we believe Des before him had the squad he wanted either?
Many have pointed out that the bloated contracts for DCE, Tom and Jake have been an albatross around the club's neck. And our results since 2015 bear that out.

I don't rate Siebold as a coach all that much, but I actually think our roster management under his tenure has been the best it has been since Tooves was sacked.

Until Tom and Jake take pay cuts we aren't in a position to throw the chequebook at top talent.

A big issue is his ability to harness the potential of juniors. During his time here he has only pretty much given Lehi a proper run because he was a guaranteed lock in the NRL due to his freakish ability. Other than that he has given most junior players a handful of 1st games and if they don't set the house on fire then they get shoved back down to NSW Cup for a long spell, then he applies the bandaid solution by buying 30+ injury prone players on the cheap. We dont seem to have the patience to persevere with young talent and give them a fair go.

Well this is the great debate at Manly…to buy Brooks, release the Fainu’s and load up on experienced forwards to compliment the big money Tom, Jake and Daly…or…do what Ryles is doing and cut some of the older players and bring through a crop of youths for success later.

He’s clearly gone for the former and we’ll never know if it’s the right or wrong decision, because it’s the only decision. We’ll never know what might have been because it will always be hypothetical, I.e. a lack of success now is not evidence of success to the contrary.

Des first three years at this point were more successful than siebs

Des got us within two games and some dodgy ref decisions from the GF in 2019 without Tom. 2020 was awful then top 4 and one game away from a GF in 2021. We fell back in 2022 but without the pride issue we would probably have made the 8.

Siebs missed the 8 by a long way in 23, last year was good but we got knocked out easily by the roosters and we will be lucky to make the 8 this year.

At this point Des is a long way in front of siebs.

When Parramatta signed Jason Ryles, their chairman talked pointedly about developing young players as part of the direction they were taking... i.e. he was given a remit to build a young squad.

Whereas at Manly, our club owner and chairman stated publicly in 2022 that we already have a premiership-winning roster, and that we needed a coaching team to match it.

That is a pretty big difference.

Phobia def NO on that one boss
I'm not saying I like the guy, or that I want to keep him in a vacuum. In both of those cases, I would want him gone far, far, away.

I'm saying this simply in reference to what is going on in the market. When players like Saulo are the best going around, it's pretty weak, and it's a downgrade on Aloiai for likely similarly inflated prices.

Those front rower injuries - Paseka, Aloiai and Brown - make it all the more puzzling why we continue with Jazz at dummy half and Jake at lock.

We're already down 3 middle forwards, plus Haumole. TBH I don't get it.

For mine, our starting pack should be Jake, Jake II and TKO in the front row. Burbo and Duck in the back row with Jazz at lock. The bench forwards would be Bull, Lodge and Sips.

But then, I'm not the coach which is probably a good thing.

And won’t the ASC, ASS, ASB just love that , the last two wins has knocked a bit of wind out of their sails but not to worry they are sitting on the sidelines , salivating at the thought of 3-4 whoopings.

I still think there’s a surprise , maybe two , coming.

As to why 🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷
