Does he tackle as much because he has to or wants to?
I would prefer he didn't do as much and would rather see his talents with the ball.
It was ok when we had Green and may change if Hodko comes but atm we have a lock playing halfback.
Anyway we won but I think he spends way too much energy doing what others should be doing.

I've always thought he has tackled too much. IMO it goes back to when he was new to the team and on the outer with clique and was trying super hard to prove his worth. He was smaller than he is now and struggled to completely stop the bigger guys but just did enough to slow them down until someone else joined him in the tackle. He could get away with doing that when he had a 5/8 playmaker on the team, but at the moment it would be better to step away from that role a little so he can concentrate on playmaking instead. We need a strongly defensive 5/8 to complement him

Croker wasn't strong enough defensively?

kinda like when Hasler played 1/2

Defence has always been one of the strongest parts of DCE's game. He's saved many a try, does a lot of kick-chasing and usually does his 20 tackles/game.

Maybe others should be doing his tackling but they don't. Thankfully DCE makes the effort and credit where credit's due.

you get a winner rating for spelling complement correctly

In terms of D C E "s general defensive work load , really just relative to the share of possession in an average game . If Manly are down in the possession stakes , only natural with D C E "s usual style of play that he will clock up more tackles and this is just the way that it is . With his good fitness level and natural speed , always a fair chance that he will be first on the scene with his kick chases . Last night with a less defensive work load , it did seem to allow him to be fresher in attack and even general organizing [ and conversely when possession is against Manly , it can be a bit draining ] '. D C E is quite solid and strong for a half back and combined with his good fitness level seems to have no trouble with one on one defence anywhere on the field.. It would be an interesting comparison with D C E and with Des in his prime and in terms of actual speed [ with both being deceptively quick .]
