As fans we are guilty of hero worshipping sportspeople for their feats on the sports field. We mistakenly believe that they also should be model citizens in their private lives. I know that in the days before social media, mobile cameras and prying media that there were plenty of scumbag footballers. They just escaped general scrutiny.
What this guy did is unforgivable, if true. I hope that the girl in question can get over it. It is even more galling that this footballer is, he claims, a God-faring man. It is yet another example of self-professed followers of religion (of all denominations) proving to be sinners rather than saints.
I still believe that this player should be allowed to do his 'day job' whilst he is innocent. If proven guilty and he is sentenced, then the club must decide if he is fit to represent Manly.
In the meantime I feel queasy about having cheered this guy on whilst he was wearing the maroon-and-white.

That's why I and probably thousands of other Manly fans are proud that we have players like Steve Menzies and Matt Ballin associated with the club. Great players in their own right who were clean skins both on and off the field which in this day and age is a rare thing. They are the type of sports people that us fans, especially kids, can look up to and be proud of.

that’s why the courts will get to decide the punishment, not the public.

If it was up to the social media kangaroo courts, he'd have been hung 10 minutes after the story broke and hit social media. Even a lot of Manly fans I've seen on Facebook and in here have had him guilty as charged and want his contract torn up.

And its the Manly fans I have been most surprised at, especially after what happened with Brett Stewart and how he was treated by the NRL and opposition fans, some of who to this day still call him a rapist despite the fact that he was found not guilty after it was revealed to be a false accusation designed to get easy money from an easy target such as a high profile footballer.

I'll take Yoda any day over an Ewok. And Oompa loompas.

So long as your missus was Princess Leia and not Admiral Akbar......its a trap!

Without condoning anything and as you know yokahontas (prob your real name) but for those who don't, snapchat was designed to delete what ever message was sent through it after 10 seconds or a single viewing.

But well, so often things with 'willies' will find a way around such trifling matters. Screen shot for one.

It’s not quiiite my real name...but close!

Old Toddy would rolling over with joy at this.He Wouldn't believe luck, we are playing right into his hands and he doesn't have to do a thing. He will probably go out and buy a lottery ticket with all this going on, and probably win that too

Interesting hearing Zorba talk about this today on radio. Said there are mixed messages as to whether the club knew about it. He said that he had known about it for 6 weeks and thought it was common knowledge.

He said he didn’t agree with allowing him to play after the situation.

Who hasn't filmed a sex act? I have a dead set Star Wars Trilogy of home porn in my cupboard.

What's the big deal?

P.S. Haven't read the article.

It's a big deal. The guys not only a fool but massive dickhead!!

I'm really hating Ruby league at the moment. From the NRL all the way down to the players.

It’s hard to disagree. But then you see legends like Jake during a break in origin camp helping out at his junior club Mona Vale and it restores your faith. I wish we could clone him.

Pleading mental illness is as good as admitting guilt, and merely putting the blame on strange voices in his head.

You take a two day break and swap ST for a campfire and come back and read this.
I miss that campfire.
I'm not passing judgement on the 19 year old. Not because he plays for Manly, it would be the same if he played for any team or if he was the kid next door. If it was a 29 year old I'd think a lot differently.
Social media can ruin young peoples lives. It's changed everything about the way the kids need to be educated.
Sad. I Hope the girl is okay and the boy learns the right way to treat women which is more important than what footy team you support.

Club should of dealt with him in April, probably got rid of him.

As for awaiting the courts decision Jack Wighton is not playing for the Raiders, now awaiting sentence.

Hasnt he admitted the offence? He asked the court for the matter to be dealt with under section 32 of mental health act.

As for getting advice from the NRL, they will surely not help steer Manly in the right direction. Report it to them sure, but don't take their advice, it will blow up in your face.

I am convinced Penn and co are doing all this deliberately to run the club down to breaking point. Seriously no one can be this dumb, it's not like one bad decision, it's now dozens.

Anyways once we sign Cartwright all will be good and we can press on towards being premiers in 2019. Said no one.

Who knows what the next drama will be? We are due for a DUI charge at least or how about under paying ball kids.

If he has admitted guilt then yes 100% deal with it, but I don't think he has admitted guilt as far as I know. We all know how the media love to go off half cocked in these situations, and anyways why punish ourselves until we know the full story. I agree with your other sentiments though.
