Three things struck me about the style of football V today:
1. The play the ball was much quicker; less three man tackles and peeling off slowly. Our rule makers should revisit the past.
2. More around-the-legs tackles
3. The footballs were much harder to kick and didn't go nearly as far. In those days you were a genius if you converted from the sideline. These days it is expected.

Heritage Round should have some rule adjustments:

Leather balls. No plastic kicking tees - all dirt mound kicks.
Contested scrums. Ha ha.
NO Moving off the mark, repeat offenders to get sin binned.
5 mtr rule, etc etc,
See our previous thread : "Rule changes between 1973 and now"

It would be great if had a central location of any old Brookvale Oval film or video clips !!

I think there is an 8mm film of a game in the 1950’s at Brookie? It would be great to see the same in the 1960’s or 1970’s?

The first colour video for TV was 1975 , so there is on youtube a Manly v’s Balmain game from 1976, Seven’s Big League game with Rex Mossop !

This site searches the Web for all video content.

Some vintage Manly on here 🙂
