Fix errors and Penalties - WIN games

Manly have been very clunky and hot/cold the past 2 seasons, showing glimpses of brilliance form and shocking form and I reckon this has a heap to do with their inconsistency....
Going back to game 1 reminded me of many games in 2017, where Manly had done enough to gain ascendancy, only to squander it all with a silly penalty (late in the count) with either
A) Deep in opposition territory with them struggling to get over their 20m line OR
B) On the Manly try line, giving repeat sets after defending the set well - to gift opportunity - often leading to those simple close range tries.
Then we have attack that has waltzed up field on the back of good go forward and then spill easy possession....in prime positions.
Not as big on stats so much, though of course the more possession the better, but its the vital area's on the park and key moments that are the killer.
Sadly often have seen games momentum change on the back of these factors.

The simple keys are defend well - you stay in the game.
Run harder and tackle harder - you win games.
Win field position - will set up control of the game.
Control the ruck - you control the tempo of the game.

Unfortunately the above is a genuine struggle when there are so many errors and penalties.
Not pretending this side has the flow of a Storm/Cows team, but if the errors are minimised and these dumb penalties can be removed - the continuity and organisation structure wise, will improve out of sight, but can this team fix this area ??

Did you need all those words? I didn’t have to read past your thread title which hit the mark first time.

It gets me how simple this game can be sometimes....

Not sure....maybe not....but every team is in a different phase, so maybe carried away trying to explain my personal reasons these will make such an improved result. just the Manly rebuild is almost there and think with these things fixed, will speed up the process.

I hope too that we don't play these early season games like we started last year.
Try and keep under the referees radar, yes sir no sir, for a while.
As difficult as that may be as it doesn't take much for them to give it to us, it may keep them off our backs later in the season.
And cut our bloody mistakes while they are at it.

Penalties are hard to fix when the refs choose what/when to pick up stuff that can usually be blown once or twice in every set of 6.

Agree with this but there were quite a few last week that were just lazy and stupid: 3 that come to mind

(1) AFB no play the ball - they all knew they would be watching and put us under pressure.

(2) AFB - practically sitting on the player trying to get up

(3) Jake T - back chatting to the ref - love his enthusiasm and i blew up at the TV for that call myself but he needs to punch the ground or find another way to vent (hit the first ball carrier after the penalty).

That’s a 25% reduction off the top of my head from last week, i’m sure there were more.

But hopefully they get the penalties that they can control fixed up and we just cop the standard Manly loading ones to give ourselves a chance. Optimistic i know lol

True but where was the consistency when:
1. Knights player missed the ball by 6 inches just lifting his foot over it trying to play it - very clear when they put a replay up as they dropped the pill on that play (hence the replay). 100 others from both teams.
2. Lillyman lay on our player 3rd or 4th tackle of the first set then rotated whilst lying on said player before getting up.
3. Thurston and Smith

Good point . Winning foundations are built on discipline .
With discipline comes momentum and with momentum comes confidence to finish the opposition off .
On Sunday we want eels blood splattered all over Lottoland
