Manly have been very clunky and hot/cold the past 2 seasons, showing glimpses of brilliance form and shocking form and I reckon this has a heap to do with their inconsistency....
Going back to game 1 reminded me of many games in 2017, where Manly had done enough to gain ascendancy, only to squander it all with a silly penalty (late in the count) with either
A) Deep in opposition territory with them struggling to get over their 20m line OR
B) On the Manly try line, giving repeat sets after defending the set well - to gift opportunity - often leading to those simple close range tries.
Then we have attack that has waltzed up field on the back of good go forward and then spill easy possession....in prime positions.
Not as big on stats so much, though of course the more possession the better, but its the vital area's on the park and key moments that are the killer.
Sadly often have seen games momentum change on the back of these factors.
The simple keys are defend well - you stay in the game.
Run harder and tackle harder - you win games.
Win field position - will set up control of the game.
Control the ruck - you control the tempo of the game.
Unfortunately the above is a genuine struggle when there are so many errors and penalties.
Not pretending this side has the flow of a Storm/Cows team, but if the errors are minimised and these dumb penalties can be removed - the continuity and organisation structure wise, will improve out of sight, but can this team fix this area ??
